The real issue of the whole situation is when you start a season and a player contracts this flu then the whole team and the team you play against will be quarantined for at least two weeks. Which will cancel games. Then teams will probably get scared of playing you and so on and so on. With what we have in place where everyone is quarantined for everything then you literally can never do any of this stuff
Until they get a vaccine. Do we really have to wait this long?
Here is what’s going to happen. When people start going bankrupt or losing jobs and people aren’t going to live a normal life 6 months or a year down the road, you are basically going to see people say frick old people, etc and go on living regular lives. Sad to say but this the road we are leading too

Exactly.
I'm tired of giving New Mexico States of the world a free hand out. Go play in the FCS where you belong.

The same can be said for sports forums right now, too! Imo, he did a good job of coming up with something for college sports junkies to be able to talk about.

COVID will likely knock out a lot of non revenue sports throughout various programs.

But a playoff with spots for 4 teams chosen from 5 conferences (some getting 2 slots) is perfectly acceptable for you?

You seem to have inherited the dumbassery gene from your mongoloid parents.
Do everyone a favor and just shut up. They won't cancel college football for 2020 unless half the planet is dead. The income generated from this sport would cripple many universities should the games NOT be played.
They'll wait...as they should to make a prudent decision.

All I care about is never putting Oklahoma in the playoff again. Ever

Because if your playoff teams are going to come from 5 conferences, then your playoff spots SHOULD CONTAIN the champs of those conferences. If not, then what's the point of having conference champs if @ least 1 of them will NOT participate in the playoffs?
With your logic, should the SEC have a "so-so" season, you'ld be fine with them NOT in it because the other conferences had better records?
Lastly, when was the last time the SECCG loser GOT IN the playoffs (I can only recall 1 - UGA in 2017/2018).

Conferences are not setup to find the best team, nor do they consider it their job to do so. They are only setup to find a conference champion, and they do that based on win-loss records on unbalanced schedules without any regard to ranking or team quality.
Just a few years ago both Georgia and Alabama lost to Auburn. But who goes to the SECCG? Georgia, for the sole reason that Georgia is in the East while both Alabama and Auburn are in the west. Georgia gets an easier schedule, a conference championship all because of how things are setup.
Beyond that, why should a regional group of teams have so much meaning on a national scale? You won among a group of 12-14 teams? So what? What about that should automatically qualify you for a playoff?
And to cap it off, if your conference champion can't make the top8, then there is probably a good reason for it.

Absolutely terrible idea.
Why? Isn't every CFB fan always exclaiming they want to get rid of the "cupcake" games? This would basically be that and then just eliminating some cross-conference games like he pointed out.

Cecil, if you’re reading this, you should feel bad.
He's not.
Also, why should he? He's a sports writer with nothing to write about currently so he wrote an article with "an idea to kick around".

Damn, you seem miserable to be around so God bless your family and friends during this situation.

Don't be so sure. I think the next 2 weeks will be the deciding factor. I *NEVER* thought they'd cancel the NCAA Mens Tournament but they did that. Imagine all the gambling money that happens during the Tourny.
Look, I hope I am wrong and we all get to watch a full season of CFB occur but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't do the season if this lingers into mid-to-late April/early may.
