Just heard a long tirade by Tim Brando on playoff expansion, how the system excludes too many teams, and I just think it is a tired argument.

College football has the best regular season in sports, and I never want to see that change.

The 2019 regular season has produced three teams far and away ahead of the pack: LSU, OSU, and Clemson. If this was the old BCS then unfortunately one of those three would be left out. Now we have perfected that system, so that all teams at the top get in.

The fourth spot, whoever it goes to, is needed to round out the playoffs. But if the 5th place team gets left out, I dont feel too bad for them. I hope Bama is able to squeeze in, but if we dont, we cant be too upset. We lost on the field to LSU.

I’ve always liked that College Football champions are required to be elite as hell from season’s beginning to end, and dont want to see that change.

If Brando is for expansion, I’m against it.

Agreed. Every game should be critical

No expansion. Bowls are already watered down...don't water down the regular season too. Note my team is the highest ranked 2 loss team and with other impending losses of people in front of us we could likely make an eight team playoff...so it would benefit my team to want an eight team playoff more than hurt.

I preferred the BCS top 2 system, TBH.

I think 8 teams is a good system when you have 5 Power 5 conferences

People should know what gets them in the playoffs.

Almost every sport has an automatic
Bid of some type in their playoffs

NFL- division champs
MLB Division champs
NCAAT - conference tournament champs

I agree completely. The LSU v Bama game was so huge because it meant one was nearly certainly IN and the other was likely OUT.

If there were an 8 team playoff, I’d still want LSU to win. But, the tension would not be as high because BOTH were certain for the top 8.

Exactly. Bama has chance to get in currently, with a combination of some luck and depending on how we finish vs Auburn. But if it was 8, win or loss vs LSU wouldnt have mattered other than seeding.

Now that my team is easily top 4, I can see the appeal of a 4-team playoff.

Amen. Stop with this fairness bs. Life is unfair. If anything expansion will lead to undeserving teams winning. CFB regular season is awesome and unique.

I'm a fan of the 6 team play off. Use the BCS formula. 2 weeks after conference championships the 3 seed hosts the 6 seed and the 4 hosts the 5 seed. After that you reseed the winners and we use the current playoff format 1 plays the lowest seed etc. Top 2 get a bye week and 3-6 play for a spot.

Agree. The 4 team playoff makes it more prestigious.

The 2 team bcs did not work, especially in 2003 and 2004.

Four is perfect.

The only way I’d ever be convinced an 8 team playoff is better would be if the 4 seed continually starts winning the thing or if the 5/6+ seed that is truly deserving gets left out. If it’s the one and two seed becoming national champs most of the time and the drop off after 4 seed, why make extra games? That essentially does water down the whole experience

Perfect? A playoff that system that is a popularity contest? And you call it perfect?

Should be automatic qualifiers hands down, expand the pool and add wild cards.

Should be earned.

The number (4) is perfect. Not necessarily the system.

No. It's possible for an 8-4 team to win a major conference. No automatic qualifiers.

This is a BS argument. If you expanded the playoff to give automatic bids to all P5 conference champions, the regular season would matter because winning your conference would matter.

Five P5 champs + 2 at-large + 1 spot reserved for the best Go5 team. Eight teams. Not complicated. Takes nothing away from the regular season.

Dude, it has already happened twice in five years.

Ohio State 2014 won and they were a controversial pick. Both Baylor and TCU were ranked higher in the AP poll, but overlooked by the CFP.

Alabama 2017 only snuck in because Wisconsin and Auburn lost their CCGs. Ohio State could have just as easily been selected.
