So it's not a private school thing?
Private schools can do it more, but schools like Virginia and North Carolina have been known to do it on a smaller scale. It's an institutional aid thing be it lottery money loophole or federal funding. Those that receive a ton of academic scholarship funding will use the excess in academic scholarships to supplement the 11.7 athletic scholarship limitation. Vandy is just the only baseball program that does it to the extent of basically having every player on scholarship.

The way I see it, if Bear Bryant had to stop signing football players to different scholarships to get around the limit, this should be no different. It's literally the same thing with a different loophole.

They don't do what Vandy does. Not close.

So is the rub that we can do it, or that we have the money to do it?

I just explained it. It's excess academic scholarship money. Instead of offering them an athletic scholly, they get an academic one.

So why don't other schools have more excess academic scholarship money?

Auburn and Alabama are not allowed to waive out of state tuition. I believe this is due to state laws and out of the hands of the schools. Huge disadvantage and makes it hard to recruit an out of state kid.

I hate Vandy. I hope they lose today. But the rule at Vandy applies to all students, not just athletes. If a student qualifies academically and is accepted. They will not be turned away because they can't afford it financially. Which I think is pretty damn cool. Maybe other schools should have said rule.

Besides the obvious answer of not getting the same amount of federal support and things like state lotteries not all applying to universities the same way, I would imagine most public schools actually use their academic scholarships to reward the academics that would like to attend their school rather than as a loophole for sports.

Ah yes. Institutions like Stanford, Vandy, UVA, and UNC don't want to reward academic achievement quite like Arkansas and other similarly situated public schools. Got it.

Are you refuting the fact that the vast majority of schools aren't just giving academic scholarships to academics? If you want to take that as a slight to your overall commitment to academics, that's on you. Regardless of what you think that means, what's true is true.

We're not the ones giving academic scholarships to people that just want to hit a ball with a stick for a few years then leave.

How are you not getting the gripe? Everyone understands it’s legal. Everyone understands that you should take advantage of it. You choosing to frame the argument in a way no one is presenting, is simply a strawman.

It’s an advantage that you have, legally, that other teams you are directly competing against don’t have.

People don’t like that and will root against you for it and advocate to change the rules to remove that legal loophole.

Got it? I know you vandy boys are smart so I think we should be good now.

This is an appropriate thread for pride month so I assume you're an ally.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Does Arkansas have a scholarship lottery, waive out-of-state tuition, give academic scholarships, or otherwise provide financial aid?

They hate the truth. embellishing makes them feel better about themselves. Would love to see their players tuition tab vs. what Dansby Swanson/David Price etc. paid...even with Oppty Vanderbilt.

Allowed a contagious whistler to be present at their sporting events. At first it was just one guy. Now there are more. They should be cancelled.

Playing dumb and pretending you don't have an advantage is one of the many reasons why everyone hates Vandy baseball.
