Thing of how many postseason games you have to win to get a natty. Think of how many excellent teams you have to beat just to get to the championship series. Then you have to beat what is clearly the next best team in the country 2 out of 3 times. Meanwhile, you can get into the NCAA baseball tournament without being good enough to get into the SEC baseball tournament at Hoover.

That's all true, but it also shows how you should be punished by not getting any points compared to 1-3 pts if you DON'T make the NCAAT. IMHO there is some sort of negative for being so bad in most years you don't even make it to the NCAAT, which as you noted is very easy to get to. So you can either deduct points or assign a slightly larger amount to making the NCAAT (1-3).

But to each his own - I do agree the National Title should probably be more like 25 or 30.

Can I just say, George, that it is an honor to be in a tie with the University of Alabama on this list.

Personally, I think we should add additional points in certain years that really stand out. An example would be football in 1964, basketball in 1994 and baseball in 1979 and 2018

Why? Because it hurts Georgia? Making the tournament is a widely agreed upon general sign of low level success in a season. It would be dumb as hell to ignore that.

It is today but he's not entirely wrong about NCAAT appearances. Tennessee had several very good seasons before the tournament expanded but never made the tourney prior to it expanding because Kentucky.

Also using the AP only for football is bullshite and you know it. It would be different if you were describing the modern era but not *all time.*

So did Alabama, Vanderbilt and several others. There's probably argument for inclusion of the NIT pre-1970 or something like that, but in the end it wouldn't change a whole lot.

I mean, if there is a better metric I'd be happy to use it. Clearly I have no bias here as anyone puts my group #1

He's pissy because a) the AP only gives UT credit for 2 titles and b) it has UF ahead.

If I was pissy I would've roasted him for including baseball at all.

I like it. Nice work.

Would you please put the total points for each school next to their name for each sport?

for example, Bama could have 3 times as many points as the next best team in football. I suspect Kentucky blows the doors off everyone in basketball.

This is one of those threads in which anyone can take a certain angle and call it bullshite by some metrics. You never win in these threads.

This is true but in all honestly I'd say that doing AP only is fine post-1970 but before that you've got to look around. The AP and Reuters have only fairly recently become unquestioned monoliths.

Plus, I'm just a contrary motherfricker.
