Athens is a nice, typical college town. It’s major attraction is it’s proximity to Atlanta.

Lol Athens fricking sucks and you've got to be a delusional homer who lives, eats and breathes football to think some college town off the beaten path that rivals Oxford with jack shite to do is a "special place".

It’s cheap and the rabble treat them like Gods. Why would they leave? The can afford to live in communities without the typical barking UGA thanks to low cost of living in Ga.

I love people who think Athens is just about college and football. My favorite times there were when the college wasn't in session or in the summer when only about half the students were about. I am sorry you can't figure out how to do anything else but drink and watch football.

UGA games are 6 games a year. 6 days. As you implied, the town absolutely does not revolve around football, although it is heralded, celebrated, and relied upon for many businesses. There is so much more.

to the rural South of Athens

One of the most beautiful parts of the state… Our drive from Barnesville to Jackson to Monticello to Madison and then up to athens is always a highlight of the trip. They don’t call it the Georgia scenic byway for no reason.

This is so ignorant it’s staggering. Spent 5 days there for 2 consecutive years going to the Masters. Beautiful town and we had a great time. Just because you are rivals you don’t have to be dishonest.

Two won NCs as SEC coaches. Another won 2 SEC Championships.
Another won 2 NCs at the Div 1AA/FCS level (Marshall).

The other is Ray Goff, he owns chicken restaurants.

That’s pretty damn cool. I wonder if they get together and talk shop?

I've been to Oxford. It's okay, but it's a dump compared to Athens.
