Teams like UGA, OSU, Bama and others who recruit in the top 5 year after year mostly aren't losing big contributors. They're processing misses in recruiting to make room for HS recruits and a select few incoming transfers.
So I understand, y'all need to process a shite load of players that were 'misses' from number 1 ranked recruiting classes. Sorry, not buying it.

I think we’re still 3 over 85. Need to lose a few more to make room.

Bama hasn’t lost a single projected starter for 2024 to the portal so far.

That's fine, but quality depth is what has made them so good. The portal reduces quality experienced depth.

The portal is Saban's worst nightmare. It dramatically reduces his control over players. That's what he hated about the NFL.
Starters Bama has acquired via the portal:
-Jamo Williams
-Henry T
-LT from Vandy
-Jahmyr Gibbs
-Jermaine Burton
-Key (S) from UAB
-Eli Ricks
-Landon Dickerson
-Jake Coker
I’m probably missing a few others, this is off the top of my head.
Projected Starters Lost to the Portal:
-None
Only player they really didn’t want to lose was Craig Sanders and he was going to have to switch positions to ILB because he was passed by Dallas Turner.
Seth McLaughlin was a starter but he had zero chance to start if he took his Covid year after the UM disaster.
Jase McClellan started this year but the coaches had to choose between keeping him or Justice Haynes and chose Haynes. Jase had been injured repeatedly and was the first Bama RB1 since 2007 not to avg 5YPC. Dude is a warrior and he had to choose whether to go UDFA, come back in a backup role or transfer. I really wish him the best, it’s a tough thing being a RB in the new minor league pro football league we follow and he had to maximize his chances at getting drafted.
I think Earl Little would’ve ended up a starter eventually but his dad somehow thought he was going to start as a TF over two 1st rounders so they hit the portal. It happens.

Bama is cutting backups and replacing them with starter tier players and top 2 classes and you think this is somehow going to negatively impact depth?
It’s just turned lower tier schools into a minor league farm system.
Now Bama is signing top classes and fixing holes with other teams starters.
Without the portal Bama would’ve been without 5 current NFL starters over the past 5 or so years.

Do you have any idea how many non starters there are in an average top 5 class? Probably 7.
Those 7 eat spots for 4 years and only contribute on special teams.
Now those 7 guys get processed and replaced with ~3 starter level players from other teams and 4 blue chip recruits.
The portal has saved Bama’s arse for poor evals at WR, RB, ILB and OL over the last few years because other teams keep promoting our top analysts to assistant coach positions and the turnover combined with some duds at OC and OL coach led to misses at WR and RB in particular.

Bama sucks
LSU is 2-10 against Alabama in their last dozen games. If Alabama sucks, than what does that say about LSU? What is a good descriptive word for worse than sucks?

My hunch is Earl Little, Jr. was the only loss the staff rather not lost. Everyone they've "lost" that has a COVID super senior eligibility was honored at senior day, so they were already penciled in as losses by the staff by mid November.

Eagles fans shoulda known they were cooked when Josh Jobe and Eli Ricks were contributors at DB for them. Those dudes were arse in college, why are they playing on an NFL defense?!

So your burn is that a guy who started for LSU the previous year was a part time starter at Bama for a season?
He sure would’ve started over anyone LSU brought to Tuscaloosa this year in the secondary.

How do you know they are replacing guys with “starter tier players”? The guys leaving Bama were part of top classes as well. The reality is Bama and no other program will have pre portal and pre NIL depth. Now, player development and coaching will be critical because the margin of error has never been thinner in a tougher SEC to go along with the portal and NIL bringing about parity.

But Bama
Hang in there Shug.
The cow college is schedule filler for the better teams in the SEC.
