Just landed in BR. we flew over the delta at around 3000 and saw a good bit of flooding near sardis Enid and Grenada. All three lakes were about dam level. I snapped a few pics from the air that I will post later.

Yeah, it's been really tough seeing parts of this city that I honestly don't recognize. I'm glad it's getting better up your way. My best friend lives in Madison and when I talked to him yesterday they still didn't have power. He said that he wanted to come down to Tuscaloosa but said when he talked with his mom that she told him he really didn't. I sent him some pictures that I took while out helping do some cleanup and he couldn't believe the damage. It would also be interested to see how the Forrest Lake subdivision is rebuilt as well as the neighborhoods adjacent to Krispy Kreme and the Shopping Center behind Full Moon BBQ.
Everytime I see pictures of how it used to look next to how it looks now it breaks my heart. I know that we'll eventually get back to normal, but it's very sad to know that the city you grew up in and love so much is never going to look the same again.
But we gotta just all pull together as a community, a city, a state and keep working till we get the job done. I'm so thankful for the organizations like Toomers for Tuscaloosa that are touching and helping so many people. I've worked with them a couple times this past week and it's amazing to see so many people coming together with a sense of state pride and open hearts.
I forget exactly who it was at the time shortly after the tornado hit, but an Ole Miss fan made a really good point at the time about rebuilding. You hate to think of rebuilding while several people have died and some are still missing so it wasn't really appropriate to delve into at the time and still probably isn't.
The point they made was a good one however. If anything physically good ultimately comes from the tornado it could be a complete revitalization of 15th Street and other dated areas of the city. With Midtown Village still mostly intact but most of the immediate 15th street area destroyed, that area can perhaps be turned into something unique development wise. It will be interesting to see if any of the damaged areas might be zoned differently or if the same fast food places are simply rebuilt as they were.

Hey all,
I am starting a Drop Off in Baton Rouge, LA.
The drop off will be at the LSU Law Center off Highland Road on Campus.
I will be driving over to Alabama (place to be determined based upon need, probably Tuscaloosa). Please limit any donations to bottled water, baby needs, clothes, personal hygiene products, but anything will be accepted. I will be coordinating with the United Way and Toomer's for Tuscaloosa this week to try and determine any other specific needs.
This will be starting today and continue through Saturday.
contact info:
email: csnowd1@lsu.edu (preferred contact method)
cell: 256-454-3335
I am currently deep into Law School finals week, so if I dont respond immediately I will get back to you ASAP. Thanks all

finally saw how Trussville got spared. You can see i-59 below and that, if I'm not mistaken is at the 459 interchange.

At about 8:15 after all the surrounding businesses started powering up, what do y'all think happened?
Yep - we blew a damn transformer.
It's like that when we get power back after hurricanes. The more transformers you hear blowing, the more power is being restored.

Thank you so much! I know that areas around Tuscaloosa - Alberta City and Holt were badly hit and up this way, Phil Campbell and Hackleburg are still hurting.

HOLY MOLY! That picture makes you realize how powerless we are in the face of what Mother Nature can do in the blink of an eye.
As bad as it is, if that had hit that area of Birmingham, the death toll would have been unimaginable.

I know. I looked at satellite and the path it was taking.. had it been on the ground there it would have gone like this.. and there's 2 times as many homes beyond the ones you can see that it would have also gotten..

Javy is just flat out awesome.
Still has his sense of humor, too. I loled at "I want to thank the makers of my tub" and in listing the supplies they bought he said "girl products".
I didn't realize he made Tuscaloosa his home in the offseason. One of my favorite Tide players ever.

Went to pratt city today to volunteer, hand out food and such. It's like a war zone in that area tons of military personal and blocks of neighborhood with just no houses anymore it was crazy. I wish I would have gotten a picture with my phone to put on here, I don't think many people have been in that area.

We manage two duplexes in that neighborhood. Our maintenance guy got some pics of the area. I'll get them from him this afternoon and post them.

My boss (Army Reserve) noticed that they were carrying guns with no bullets in them when he was out there yesterday. Apparently it's the Air Guard in Pratt City.

Yeah. He asked some guy why they didn't have bullets or extra clips bc he had some extra he could share. He said the guy was trying to not crack a smile and laugh.
