I just got back on the grid too, we had tornadoes go overhead but luckily we didn't have any to hit the ground. Our neighbors three miles down the road had their town wiped out. Man it's a wonder there isn't thousands dead. We were very blessed.

I would shoot looters on the spot if they invaded my property. scumbags. Bama is getting a taste what louisiana had to deal with.

I have a best friend and co-worker that has two daughters that live in Tuscalossa, finally found out a few minutes ago, that they and family are ok.
I pray that God will comfort all, as we live within his mercy.

Curry. I think Jasper is slowly getting power back in places too.

Spent yesterday around Forest Lake and today around Alberta. Today we dug through rubble and the past two days we've been cutting up trees etc.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is how off the death toll is right now. Its awful to say but they've already filled the VA (40 bodies) and DCH morgue.
With this amount of devestation and the lack of cover from a tornado of this magnitude the total is going to be bad.
Things have been pretty hectic, because in order to keep looters etc, out they've effectively kept a lot of volunteers out as well. In alberta today there were more volunteers handing out food and water than people cleaning up.
Awesome to see all of us pool together just frustrating to not be a more effective use of time/abilities. We had 12 guys with 8 chainsaws today and only got to about 3 houses, because they wouldn't let us drive in we had to walk in over a mile. Then we couldn't get into the area until after 11 am, because of the O'bama motorcade.

yeah, the death toll they are announcing is very low. it'll be a miracle if less than 100 people in tuscaloosa died.

I have power now, on Reed St. No cable. A volunteer team and I drove water, food, diapers, tents, etc out to Rosedale back and fourth the whole day. Rosedale got it BAD. It was jaw-dropping. Complete carnage.

Agreed. The death toll is too low to believe after seeing what I've seen.

Just got internet connectivity back at work, not sure how long it will last as we are on generators for this section of power.
Wife and kids are safe. For the most part Athens, AL was spared, but all around is a disaster area.
I was at work at the TVA BFN Plant when the tornado roared through. Hackleburg, Phil Campbell, Moulton, Tanner, Mount Hope then accross Highway 72 into Anderson Hills subdivision (about 4 miles from my home).
Was scared to death as I saw it pass and knew where it appeared to be headed. Couldn't get in touch with the wife. Massive damage as you all know.
Have been through many Hurricanes, being from south Louisiana, but nothing even close to this.
The image of sheetmetal, shingles, wood, trees, insulation and clothes falling from the sky will be burned into my mind forever.
I found a bill from Phil Campbell in my backyard in Athens .. over 70 miles away.
Just glad and thankful that my family is ok.
Prayers out to all affected! God Bless!

Lord, each and everyone one of us has fallen short of your Glory. We would ask for Your forgiveness and blessing. Today, many of your children are lost. Please place Your goodness and light on those missing and their loved ones. Give strength to those searching, and wisdom to those leading. We would ask that in the event that those missing are gone, that they are wrapped in Your eternal loving arms...that their last minutes were filled with the comfort and thought of those they leave behind. We seek assurance, and peace of mind and know that those things are only found in You. Lord, grant to those left behind the will and ability to go on...may they find peace and comfort in the fact that one day we will all rejoin in happiness on that distant shore. In all that we do, and in Your name, Amen.
This. This has been a nightmare. It is unimaginable the damage that has been done. Anyone that can help, pleae do. If you can't, say a prayer. If you see a cop, national gaurdsmen, firefighter, nurse, doctor, etc, say a quick thank you. It has been rough on the people who have no choice but to deal with it.

This is a video of where I worked...
LINK
My car is the red Honda Civic at 1:50. I am also in the shot. I have my foot up on the awning that fell down and I hugged one of the girls that worked in the same shopping center that went thru it with me.
This is the most incredible shot of the tornado...at the 4:32 mark is when it crossed the street and hit my work.

RedElephants, do you have reason to believe it was gang related? have you noticed any concerted/coordinated behavior by ostensible victims? day or night since Wednesday?
anyone heard street talk of gangs raping/killing locals/female responders?

Hey buddy I was wondering if you were alright. Yeah I just watched the video, that's crazy. Yeah I'm pissed about the gym being demolished. Luckily my membership dues are put on hold for now. I don't know where else to go besides Northridge Fitness but that's 49.00 a month and that's a lot more than 10.00 a month.
Are you doing any volunteer work this weekend? I wanna do some and I don't know if my buddy is going to be able to go or not. My brother, my gf, and I wanna go help tomorrow.
