You're reminding me of Auburn fans before the Saban hire.. Heck, I'd bet you were saying the exact same things you are today. My suggestion to you is to quit following Alabama's coaching search so closely. If Bruce Pearl is so great, why are you spending so much time trying to convince us (and yourself) that Alabama can't hire Gregg Marshall?

I don't think Marshall comes to Alabama not because of money but he's turned down better gigs already.
I think he's holding out for a upper echelon job. Which let's face it there's only 1 of those in this conference.
My guess is he ends up at IU or Purdue eventually, if not one of the Research Triangle schools.

It might be wise to hold out for a "bigger" job. It won't be Purdue - they love Painter and next year's team is going to be stronger than ever (they lose one senior who is insignificant). IU may be available, but it may not - it's a gamble. If Crean takes them deep next year, or if Wichita falls apart and his stock falls, the gamble fails.
I could see IU happening in an auburn/Tuberville sort of way, though. They don't seem to be firing Crean but they may make a backdoor deal.

If you want only a pro Bama opinion, you should stay on Bammer message boards. God knows most Bama message boards do not allow any dissenting opinion.
People who bring up the Saban situation are idiots for numerous reasons. The situations are nothing alike and that was also the only time in modern history that Bama attracted a big name coach in any sport. What about all the other times bammers expected a big name coach in either football or basketball and it didn't happen

The point is not that the hiring situations are similar. The point is that the message board situations are similar - people typing over and over how "stupid" Bama fans are, it will "never" happen, blah blah blah.
I would not put money on Marshall going to Alabama. I have no idea what is being negotiated, if anything. But I'm not the one spouting off like a complete jackass as if I KNEW what would happen. The sad thing is even if you're wrong this time, it won't slow you down. You'll be right back in the next conversation telling us what WILL happen and how stupid any of us are if we believe otherwise.

IMO all this chatter about Bama's interest in Marshall is nothing more than Bama making it public that they intend to get serious about financially supporting the basketball program.
Lord knows the money is available - put it to good use and give our fans something to occupy our time while the King (football) takes a rest.

When have we expected a big name in basketball and not gotten one? We were still following the Paul Bryant model when we hired Wimp, Hobbs, and Gottfried. Grant was most fans #1 or #2 choice 6 years ago.

I think its fine in this case but you don't want your perception to be that no one wants the job by going around offering these hot coaches the position and having them turn it down one by one.

Why is my opinion abou bama any of your concern? I would also say my opinion on this issue is in the majority that bama basketball is not a great job and they won't find a big name coach
