Oh how I hated that no call.

Francione, Shula, and Saban have all been great in the coaching and preparation departments.
The most amazing part of their preparation is how it translates to Alabama's opponents being the most penalized of any team in the conference, too.

Best non-call ever.
Edited to add: The LSU player clearly had position and was only going for the ball.

Is there a logical disconnect here? We are in the same conference, we play each other so we're all each other's opponents, if someone is the least penalized isn't it glaringly obvious that their opponents are going to be more penalized?
Are their any actual charts available to link that break down the penalties called against the entire conference and ranks them? For the last..what...ten years?

Just like the defenders in this pic, right?

Are they just well-coached to not commit penalties, or are they receiving favorable calls?
When Saban was at LSU he used an NCAA ref that worked at LSU to work practices, and teach the players what they could and couldn't get away with.

Sounds like good coaching to me. Know the rules, play by the rules, use them to you radvantage. Shame on those that do not.

This seems pretty easy to me.
The SEC has to cheat to beat Bama.
Duh.

I have seen those charts on this site before. I am not computer savvy enough to find or link them, but when you find them, they will show Alabama the least penalized. And their opponents are the most penalized.
The particular chart I have seen was vs. SEC competition only. It gives a per game average of number of penalties and yards. In other words, if you add up the number and yards of penalties of each team's opponents in that particular game, and average that out per game, Alabama's opponents are penalized at a higher rate for more yards than any other team in the SEC.
I'm not the only one who has seen this information, and it dated back several years. The Auburn games of '04 and '06 is the reason it was even mentioned. Usually officiating is only pertinent or relevant when discussing. losses.
Normally, you will see the teams that have fared the best end up leading in penalties. This is true in college and professional. Florida and LSU led the nation the past two years, and won the NC each time. I think this falls under the subjectivity of giving the underdog the benefit of the doubt.
Given Alabama's performance over this decade, I guess they have been the underdog quite a bit. But, the numbers are still somewhat disturbing.
Hopefully someone here that knows how to find these charts will be nice enough to tell you how to find them if you are interested.

I was waiting for this to be posted so I can tell you to go "re-read" Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer. The Alabama-LSU game, even your own boy said it was a bad call and it was.

According to you all, Saban should have lost 5 games that year in 04 right? With a Senior QB.
Because we all know Bama would have won that game if it wasn't for the no call.

Married to one. In-Laws are Bama fans. Makes for interesting holidays. Regardless, I'm an SEC and football fan.
I really liked the book, and I find it funny that Alabama fans, including my In-Laws that turned me onto the book keep shouting to the heavens at how bad that call was. (2004 non-interference call)
Yea, YJRH talked about the game were the timekeeper let the time run off the clock when we were inside the 10 and the refs ran off the field when they should have put time back on the clock. Bama fans seem to forget about this one.

At LSU from 2002-2004, Saban's teams were 71, 98, and 47th in penalties. The National Championship team had the 98 teams in front of them who had less penalties

Couldn't possibly be due to preparation and coaching.
