A few years ago, espn radio interviewed Jim Hawthorne and he went on and on about what a rivalry the Alabama game was and Saban has nothing to do with and how the two schools were just rivals, etc.

The next segment interviewed Eli gold and was asked the same question and was told what Hawthorne said and Eli laughed. He said its only big to Lsu because of Saban and it didn't have the history of some other bama games. He said its a big game but certainly not on the level of auburn or Tennessee. The radio host was like, oh..ok.well.

It was clearly the biggest rivalry for Saban. Dude would celebrate like he won the ship. Until he beat us into oblivion. Boring now.

This is more of a shot at Auburn than a compliment for LSU.

This. I can't imagine in a million years a Bama player "forgetting" about Auburn.

not saying it's a rivalry, but after the 2012 game is the most excited I've ever seen Saban.

Bama brags about titles.

LSU brags about being a team’s #1 rival lollolol

Bama fans & Auburn fans are arguing about their rivalry, as fans. I simply quoted what a player said the team thinks about another team. Reading is hard.

Listening is an even more daunting task because he simply never said LSU was the stand alone top rival.

We tried to tell Aubies that we don't care about 26-14. This just further confirms how little effect it had after winning the National Title.

Again, he said the PLAYERS see LSU as their #1 rival. This has nothing to do with what the trailer park thinks.

Damien must have “forgotten” about Auburn because...
He may have forgotten that one and was remembering the previous 2 games in which he participated which were beatdowns of Auburn, including at JH.

Then Bama got lackadaisical having won 5 of 6, including 3 of 4 in JH and was leading the game approaching the 4th qtr, then frittered the game away. That 12 pt loss was the first time since 1969 that AU won by more than 10 (Bama has beaten AU 18 times by more than 10 during that same period, including 5 times in the previous 6 years.). I guess 12 pts did seem like a beatdown to AU fans, they hadn't seen anything like that in almost 50 years.

Damn this really got to the gumps

Every year they have a player say Lsu is their number 1 rival, and everyone it makes them mad

Not really, I've made a point of this several times on this board. 08-15 LSU was definitely where Bama's focus was, along with UF 08-10. LSU was the only program able to consistently physcially matchup with Alabama. Though Bama won most of the games, all of them were close and physically brutal except for 21-0. Even the 38-17 game was much closer than the score. I've been saying that the players and coaches and much of the fanbase have realized it was LSU. Things have dropped off now with Coach O, so it's not the same. But I assume it will still be physical. But with Tua, your D will be in trouble, even though Aranda is a great DC.

AU nor UT have ceased being a rival in a different sense. Even LSU is just a notch below in that same sense. But until really last year, LSU has been the primary focus of the program since 08.

A few Bama fans don't understand and a few posters here are just giving you a hard time, but most of even the fanbase knows. And obviously the coaches and players. Though as I mentioned it is changing at this moment. There really in no consistent threat in the West now. But we likely have UGA in the East that will now pose the big problem.

Honest question: did you take out old copies of Bama/LSU game programs, slowly pull down your elastic-band jeans, half close your eyes while allowing your mind to drift to an Alabama RB saying “LSU is our rival,” and stroke yourself with a Nick Saban brand furry elephant glove?

The year before last was scoreless in the 4th.

And last year wasn’t some arse kicking. And yea, 7 in a row, I get it. 3 of those where point blank choke jobs by LSU.

To say we aren’t still your biggest challenge is laughable if you are gonna be honest.

All good though. Look forward to the game this year.
