2010 and 2014 were worse, statistically.

We've played some decent offenses so far and are 1st in the SEC in YPP Against vs P5 teams.

vs FBS teams
#14 overall in YPP
#2 SEC in YPP

vs P5 teams
#11 overall in YPP
#1 SEC in YPP

And we've played the #3, #5, #7 and #9 offenses in the SEC so far in YPP (Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Missouri).

So, it has a few soft spots, but it's still a pretty good defense. It's a strange defense by Alabama standards because we have very good inside DTs but our MLBs have been inconsistent, and we are inconsistent setting the edge, so we give up way more random 8-15 yard runs than we are used too. However, we have a nasty pash rush (#1 SEC in sacks per game) and our secondary is athletic as hell (#10 nationally in Opponent QB Rating). They misread things every once in a while, but they are all over the field.

LSU has no Lynyrd, Guice, OBJ, etc.

And they won't again this year.

2018:
315 YPG
15.1 PPG

2014:
328 YPG
18.4 PPG

2010:
286 YPG
13.5 PPG

I'll give you 2014. I was looking at national ranks. Apparently, all of college football decided to not play defense that year. However, your YPG and PPG are better this year than they were in 2010.

This sounds more plausible.

You have to go back a long time for the last game where Bama dropped more than 28 points on LSU in Baton Rouge.

Coach Fran dropped 31 that day on Muschamp and Jimbo rolled up a big donut. I can't recall who their boss was back then but I'm certain he was blameless.

7th in scoring defense and 16th in total defense.

I mean, if they had been #1 in every defensive statistic for 10 years but this year they were #2 your statement would still be true.

That 2010 group made their hay against bad offenses. When you filter those out, they drop quite a bit. The 2018 group has already played multiple solid offenses and performed pretty decently.

vs P5/BCS Teams

2010
4.80 YPP
64 plays per game
308 YPG
15.1 PPG

2018
4.65 YPP
66 plays per game
305 YPG
17.0 PPG

That 2010 group was super talented but they were young everywhere, and it showed against the better offenses we played (Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU, Auburn).

2010 vs Ranked Teams (Ark, USC, LSU, MSU, Aub)
5.29 YPP
326.5 YPG
20.7 PPG

And honestly, the league all around is so much better offensively than it was back then, it's almost even hard to compare.

I still won't believe that we score more than 24 until I see it with my own 2 eyes.

Until it happens otherwise, I fully expect a 17-13 game in which every possession gets to 3rd and 4 on both sides the entire game and I piss myself 7 times. It's how this game in Baton Rouge always goes.

while i agree with what you're saying, tua is an absurd 71% on 45 3rd down attempts passing. that is freaking crazy as hell

oddly enough, bama is a mortal 45% overall on 3rd down conversions. so they're converting like crazy passing but not so much running. weird
