That IS pretty ridiculous, right there!

The fact that Saban hasn't already started him is baffling.
Well, few coaches would pull a starter that was a second from winning it all the year before, in spite of his shortcomings, in favor of a true freshman. Few coaches would, and Saban is more conservative on offense than most of them.
Tagovailoa did, naturally, need playing time and experience to prepare him for the starting job on a national title contender. He got that, and it's pretty clear that he's a much better quarterback.
I have been of the opinion that the competition for the starting job would be an open battle in the spring, and that Tagovailoa would win that battle and be the starting qb next season. After the Auburn game, I honestly didn't expect to be playing in the national title game.
Now, though, if Hurts wins the national title, having lost only 2 games in 2 years, then I expect he'll be the starting qb next year, and I expect Tagovailoa will transfer, probably to out west. UCLA would seem like a good option. If this happens, I will be celebrating yet another national title, hope Hurts improves over the next couple of years and wins it again, and I will be a Tua fan wherever he lands.
win/win

You know, part of me just wants Saban to play Tua so you'll shut the frick up.
...but the other part of me realizes you'll just move on to bitching about something else.

Because, as noted, I will be celebrating yet another national title?
Or is it because, as noted, I hope Hurts will improve and win it again in the next 2 years, in the case that Tua transfers?
Some posters in this thread, mostly the so called Alabama fans, must expect people to wallow around in pathetic misery if you lose a football game. Wrong answer. Even if there were not that silver lining in the event we lose this game, I'm not going to curl up in the fetal position in some cave in Timbuktu with a bottle of sleeping pills and a 5th of Crown at my head.

Now that's another point I forgot to mention. If Tua gets to play in this game, even a little, I expect he will still win the job in the spring, and we'll be awesome the next 2 years.

To be fair, a lot of these posters have likely only really known the Saban era. And the bottom line is that any time Alabama does not win a National Championship, it is now considered a disappointment. While that seems crazy as a non-Alabama fan, it seems pretty clear that is the reality right now.
There is no way losing this year would not be a huge loss for Alabama.
No SEC title. No national title.
That is the price of the past success. Props to all those who endured the time between Stallings and Saban. But the newer generation have no idea how special this Alabama run has been and definitely will not be ready when it ends.

Do they put asterisks by the NCAA tournament basketball winners that weren't conference champs? I think not...

I grew up during Coach Bryant's time at Alabama. It is always a disappointment when Alabama does not win the national title. That is Alabama's goal and standard. Alabama does not always reach that goal, but it is the standard. The fact that Alabama has only gone through two decades since 1920 (1950's and 1980's) attests to it.

Do you Jalen haters really believe that Saban, who has an NFL background, wouldn’t start the QB who has the best chance of winning the games?
I would rather see Tua but I have to believe that at this point, Saban and Daboll believe Hurts is still the best option.
As someone else posted, the minute they put Tua as the starter, y’all will be griping about how Jalen or the back up should be starting. In two years, y’all will be wanting Tua’s little brother.
