To say there is no justification for them being in is too much.

The media is not what is keeping Alabama out.
IF Alabama does not make it into the playoff this year, it will be because the ACC conference commissioner found some allies on the “committee.”
That is why the playoff slots should be earned not selected. Leagues are too big to define a real champion. Divide FBS into upper and lower revenue divisions with NIL caps. Have 8, 8 team conferences, play 10 conference games including 3 home and home. Then 8 league winners and 4 wild cards earn playoff spots.
Committees are a cul de sac where good ideas go to die. No more committee “selections.”
