I’m pretty sure McTatt was saying that, going forward, the talent gap between bamma and everyone else will close, then even, then reverse, then the reverse will widen, and they’ll be mid pack losers because they can no longer maintain the advantage.
And, he’s right.
I see your point and that makes sense in the context you put it. Here is where Bama might have to readjust. Nick Saban was one of the few coaches (Pete Carroll at USC did it back when he was there), Urban Meyer to a degree, but none more than Saban, that could go into any state and be competitive for a top 10 recruit in said state.
So many of these 4/5***** players on Bama's roster part of that 89% 247 Blue Chip ratio are not from Alabama so they don't have that in their heart love for the University. Many of them, and those from out of state went to play for Nick Saban at Alabama. With the NIL and Portal, many of those guys if things are not going well at Bama can now just hop in the portal and go, and that is happening more and more. Can DeBoer establish a culture that attracts those blue chip Out of State prospects and keep them there? That is I think going to be an issue going forward.
So my view, Bama needs to refocus on recruiting as many of the in-state Alabama HS guys that are 4**** or 3*** who have lots of upside, but will run through the every building on campus to play for Bama. Those guys will stick it out. AL has what like 5 million people now and from what I saw has 14 4 stars or better and 3 star players out to #100. Now obviously those 3 star guys 50 to 100 or not the same as the ones say 15 to 30, but there are SEC caliber players. FSU has a commit, Ole Miss has 2, SCAR has 2 and Bama has 1 in that range.
LSU always gets about 15 guys from LA and then compliments the class with a few guys from TX, GA, FL, MS, AK, TN, etc.

Except we still continue to have the top classes. So NIL is not the issue for UA to compete because we are getting the players. The problem is the lack of development.
Those players will stop coming to Bama if the results on the field drop as well as players not getting developed.

Everyone cried about Ohio State's 20 million dollar roster but that was never an unreasonable amount. Just think about it- on an 85 man roster that's less than a quarter million per player. Even 20 million on just the starters is less than a million per player. Now look at what some of these QBs, receivers, transfers and 5 star recruits are getting, you can easily get to 20 million with like 5 players.
Ohio State always gets lumped in with the big NIL spenders but we are going to get left in the dust along with Bama, LSU, etc. None of us have the kind of money Oregon, Michigan, Miami and the Texas schools are spending.

God forbid a university graduate productive members of society.
The real reason Bama is going to continue to decline is that it’s not a very good school, and its alumni base is made up of sidewalk alumni and out of state Yankees who only went there for Saban.

But gump posters told us that recruits just love Bama.

Hold on! Are you bragging about that? What have Auburn football program have done all those years?
Not sure if you were aware, but the former AD and Prez hired someone completely out of their league in this conference, and it ultimately set AU back years. Slowly digging out now, but this error mirrors what's going on in Ttown.

Moron.
If "we all did it" then NIL wouldn't matter - and Texas would have gotten all the players anyway.

He's a degenerate scum but he's CEO of one of the most successful companies in the world? Sure, Jan. And probably a billionaire himself if you include his Apple stock.

Taking a while to sell those chargers to convert them into cash in this economy.

Did I say it would not. I responded to AJ saying the reason UA cannot compete because it lacks the NIL to get the top recruits. That may be true in the future, but NIL had nothing to do with the results on the field against FSU. According to every site UA as one of the top rosters with talent in the country. So, NIL currently is irrelevant. The issue is lack of development by the staff and seems to be a culture thing with lack of effort.

Has nothing to do with what happened Saturday. What he says might be true but on paper Alabama is still one of the most talented teams in the country.
This. Alabama has recruited well over many years. They have excellent players. Their problem is coaching.

Like what? Other than put a little yellow tag on the field.
PSA: Remember if your stadium doesn't have that little yellow tag, you don't want it!

Lol. No one is paying 50 million. Alabama has the highest blue chip ratio in country, had the #1 class in 2024, the #1 class in 2023, and the current #4 class. LSU's current roster is $18 million, Brian Kelly has said. It ain't your NIL AJ, it ain't your players, it is your Walmart t shirt wearing head coach and his staff.
