Yo, I don't need a lecture on the development of players or anything. AJ McCarron is 22, which means he is more or less done growing. Males stop growing around this time.

He's better than McClroy but he will need a few years as a back up to develop if he has any shot at being a starter in the league.

Your are entitled to your opinion. Not every QB in the NFL has the Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler type of Arm.

Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Andy Dalton etc all are good QBs without that eltite arm strength.

was just about to make that point. Look at peyton....now he is still a top 5 qb but very rarely throws over 30 yrd passes. League has turned into a dink and dunk and run and passes under 40 yrds. teams are not going long all that much.

Right. Thanks for amending your argument. AJ doesn't have elite arm strength and never will. This doesn't mean he won't be successful, it just means he has to go to the right team. Most likely, AJ will be a career backup.

One of those is not like the other.

And Andy Dalton sucks.

Who was that last QB you had, that guy who couldn't beat out a horrible Mark Sanchez and an even worse Tim Tebow? That's who AJ reminds me of. He'll make a good living being a backup NFL QB.
Not sure who will make more $$ someday though, AJ or his girlfriend.

He's not as physically imposing as Brady, Manning, Manning, Luck, etc. But he puts the ball where it should be, and it gets there quick enough. Who knows?

Kid's got accuracy.

Reminds me of Phillip Rivers with all his whining though.

They all have similar arm talent. Brees is more accurate and plays in a more QB friendly system than the other 2.

Point remains AJ will be a starter at the next level. How long he remains a starter all depends what organization he goes to and the pieces they surround him with.

I think it bears repeating that just because a QB doesn't have elite arm strength, doesn't mean that he has a below average arm or that it's a liability. AJ does not have an elite arm but he does have an above average arm, i.e. it is not a weakness.

Brees

This guy isn't comparable to any of the others. Brees is on another level intellectually in his game. He throws people open and he has always been an ELITE QB. Hell he broke every Big Ten record there was before he left.

AJ ... not so much. The championships are impressive and he played well in both games. But he had quite the supporting cast both times.

He will be a starter somewhere, IMO. He has excellent technique with his drop backs, and makes good calls and reads at the line . He also seems to be that ultra competitive, fiery, leader type. His arm is undoubtedly strong enough for the NFL, and he can seemingly make all the throws. We shall see.

As of right now, he IS NOT a NFL STARTER. He doesn't have to be now though. If he gets to the NFL and can sit for a few seasons and get used to the speed, he could make it as a starter. If he had to go to the league this year, he would not be a starter.

He kind of reminds me of Matt Ryan. Not a great arm, but a good one. Needs good weapons around him. Makes good decisions for the most part. Not elite, but solid.

Hell no. Not even close.

I said this to Gumps about a month ago and was called every name known to man. He needs work on his deep ball. Period.

No he won't. He doesn't have an elite arm and is rarely under pressure for an NFL
Team to see him under pressure. He will not go first round.

I wouldn't be surprised to see AJ do very well in the NFL. He's got a knack for showing up big on the biggest stage. He's got good height and he's got a big time arm (maybe not strength-wise but in accuracy). The pass he made to the sideline against Notre Dame could not have been better placed. That said, he never should have thrown it. He has the tendency to force passes sometimes that would be normally be picked of in college and almost always in the NFL.

AJ has a quick release and really is film room junky. He knows where to go with the ball, he picks up coverage well and is not opposed to taking the check down. Having all day to throw is a luxury AJ doesn't need to be successful.

The Bama O-line is losing alot and AJ #s will not regress at all.

Which is going 20-28 for 250 yards and 4 TDs against one of the best defenses in the CFB? If that is his ceiling, then he will be just fine.

Come on. Everyone knew ND's def was severely overrated.
