People wonder why Tuberville bolted.

Lubbock is a shithole. I think that is the only campus I have visited and seen tumbleweeds.

great illustration of your feelings and funny as hell.

i've been to lubbock once and was actuallly forced to endure waco on two occasions and pray that i'm done with my sentence. my car broke down in lubbock years ago and was forced to spend the night. couldn't even buy a drink (first time i had ever encountered a dry county; we could just go up to the gas station, drug store, market, 7-11, etc for booze) and the the repairman ripped me off big time.

Lubbock County has never been dry. The city was. Just south of town was "The Strip," a long line of huge liquor stores. These store owners basically bribed Lubbock city officials to stay dry. Lubbock went wet in 2008, I think, and The Strip is no more.

I always loved the logic of the Strip. "Let's ban alcohol in town so we can encourage thousands of people, especially Tech Tards, to drive 20 miles and then hit a drive thru liquor store and drive back!" I'm sure there was no drinking and driving going on there and everyone waited until they got home.

In the 70s when steve sloan was hired on as Techs head coach when they landed in lubbock and his wife stepped off the plane and saw the landscape she cried. Also: I currently live south of Lubbock and right now it's a damn dust storm of the highest proportion.

As bad as Lubbock weather is, that's nowhere near the worst thing about Tech. The worst thing is clearly the people. eATMe shirts everywhere I looked (in '75 and '77), a 60+ year old woman standing up on her table in McDonald's and screaming at us to get the hell out of there because we sucked, and everywhere in town hearing "Aggies Suck!", over and over and over, a wannabe Bruce Lee approaching us during the game stating he was a black belt and he always wanted to kill multiple people in uniform. What?

I will definitely not miss Texas Tech. I keep hoping some bad guy will nuke the place, but so far the bad guys haven't obliged.

We are pretty thrilled to not be going back to Aimes, IA and lovely Lincoln, NE also.

The SEC is an upgrade over the little 12 in so many ways!
