That was a different time. Life is all about timing. Cam happened when we had new NCAA infractions staff and the NCAA had been seen as Nazi's (the word that was used most Frequently). The NCAA was trying tow work with it's member institutions. Well, like any governing body, whether it be at work, as a coach, law enforcement, if you try to be "friends" with subordinates they take advantage of it. Member schools look at the NCAA as a weak, unwilling, slow to react, pushover of a joke and have no respect for them. The NCAA can't operate with no respect from it's members. When Swank, Miles Brand and Tom Yeager were running the show member schools respected them. The NCAA would like to get it's "teeth" back. That is Ole Miss's problem. If this were 2010, Ole miss would probably get a stern lecture and a probation with no schollie reduction which really isn't probation.

Except the NCAA closed that loophole. The problem was the NCAA wasn't going to investigate a situation and ruin the title game on something that could be overturned. Cam's dad took money but the NCAA didn't explicitly cover it and Cam was playing in the title - no way were they going to push that.
OM's situation is completely different.

I'm saying that they weren't going to rule him ineligible no matter what because of the title game and because of the possibility it could be overturned later (the investigation didn't hinder the title game). If there had been no title game and a more explicit provision, then it would've been completely different. That loophole has been closed tho.

You guys turned them in, so why not just have a joint press conference with Saban and Mark Emmert and just tell everyone what their punishment is going to be for this great infraction and insult. (Beating bama twice)

I've never really been sure where all of Alabama's players drive nice car rumors came from. I think it started with Julio Jones if I remember correctly. Everybody thought he drove an Escalade but turns out it was a old Yukon with a new grill and some emblems. Greg McElroy drove a range rover but loook at who his dad is. AJ McCarron drove a Yukon with rims, big deal. Dre Kirk drove a charger but there was not anything special about it besides it saying "dre kirk" in the pin stripping. Then there was the Derrick Henry Challanger but that has already been explained. Anybody care to add anything to this? Thats all i can think of.

Foster had some kind of vehicle, but we probably bought it for him before he flipped.

it was a Denali and Bama had nothing to do with it. It was another school's booster from another conference. ETA, Momma got a car as well. I believe it was a Navigator

i'm never too bothered by the car thing. i don't concern myself with things that happen at every school. i concern myself with behavior that goes beyond what other schools do. and as a side note, when did used dodge chargers become luxury cars? I see that model car brought up frequently. you can get a few years old used, base model charger for $15k or less.

here was a car that was posted on the rant in 2010. the car julio is driving is allegedly the purple one, the other being mark ingram. that purple tahoe may be a denali, but it's a later model than was available at the time, prob at least a 2006 or older. mark ingram's LTZ tahoe in 2008 would have been at least a $40k. And honestly, while his dad is in jail now, he still had a 10 year NFL career. It's not impossible he actually saved money and Ingram's family bought him the car. Probably didn't happen, but like I said earlier, unless the whole team is dirivng around in brand new escalades, the car thing has never really bothered me.

All you can do is laugh at this point. NCAA puffed their chest up, but when AU got their lawyers involved the NCAA backed down.
Haha the NCAA investigated the frick out of Auburn. As much as I'd like to say we intimidated the NCAA into submission, that didn't happen. They just couldn't find anything involving AU, because AU knew what was going on from essentially the outset and acted accordingly.
It really isn't that hard.

but it's pretty damn old
I believe it was an 06 or 07 model(again going off memory), also has at least 10k in extras, if not more
But again, came from a booster from another conference. I am not accusing bama(or their boosters/fans) of anything.

except for the part where the NCAA gave Auburn a rectal exam

Not to split hairs here, but according to the rules which were in place at the time of Cam's recruitment, asking for money, or 'shopping around' an amateur athlete (whether or not you got cash) was against the rules, and would make one ineligible. Also against the rules was anyone kin to, or acting on behalf of, an amateur player, asking for money. That means his dad was acting as his agent, regardless of what Cam said he did or didn't know.
I could understand the ncaa turning a blind eye if a players long lost aunt who he never talks to contacted a program asking for money...but his own Dad who he is not estranged from? Come on.
