I'm with you there. Chavis definitely wasn't flawless, I agree. But then again, who is? Collectively, he was a damn good DC that almost always had us in the discussion for best defense in the SEC. Do you really think Steele will be an upgrade? He's never had access to the talent we have, so while it may not be an impossibility, I think it certainly is a definite improbability. I think we may begin to suffer on the defensive side of the ball 2-3 years from now. Kind of like what happened when he was at Clemson.

All that typing yet you've still admitted your defense won't be better than LSUs

Of course we won't, even if we had more talent (we don't) LSU's style of offense would make their defense statistically better. A&M's offensive style is both more productive and gives the other team more possessions. Moreover, we frequently jump on lesser teams rapidly with our style and force them to play hurry up and throw the ball for the majority of the game which skews yardage stats and is prone to many garbage time points given up.

We don't need to be as good as LSU on defense to win a lot of games.

LSU offense averaged 17 points in all losses while Chavis was at LSU.

He is thankful now to be at a school that can put points on the board.

Nope. None on this board criticized him.

I just realized that I'm an LSU fan and I've criticized him on this board. So there's that.

Well you're making general assumptions like you know so many LSU fans or something

Well...I do. I was born in Baton Rouge. Most of my family is still in baton Rouge. I worked for three and a half years with delta Air Lines in baton Rouge. Shoot, my own brother wears ugly purple and gold lounge pants and a LSU cap on game day, so yes...I DO know a lot of LSU fans.

However, I am basing it off what I have seen on this board. Very little discussion about him before he left. (Except for many on here singing his praises) Now? Threads MONTHS after he left.

I'm not sure I said nobody hs ever criticized him...but not a whole lot did.

I honestly think the uptick in recruiting could very well lead LSU to being better. If you look at history, the great teams always had great players. Sure, there are great coaches who really make a team. But look at your NC winners and look at the rosters. It all starts with having good players. And this staff recruits it's balls off. As an aggy said earlier, Chavis hasn't had a full recruiting cycle. Well neither has Steele and O, but we've managed to have the best class since 2009 just in their first few months.

And they haven't always had these miserable defenses. Weren't they actually pretty good in 2012? Not elite, but good enough to win 10

aTm's scoring D was top 30 in 2012. They may have been top 25.

We were 26th in PPG and 67th in YPG. We were 46th in the stat most reflective of defensive prowess across all styles of play: Points per play.

This whole "all we need is a top 50 defense to win titles" narrative by aTm fans is ignorant.

If our defense was ranked exactly 50th last year, we would have given up 40 fewer points on the season. Seeing as we lost the Mizzu and LSU games by a total of 12 points, that could have been the difference in an 8 win and a 10 win season. In 2013, it could have been the difference between a 9 win and a 12 win season.

A&M scored 10 points against LSU's worst defense in years..with 3 first round picks, one being a returning Heisman.

Once again, this board is to discuss your issues WITH OTHER SEC FANS.

If LSU fans wanted to discuss Chavis, they didn't start threads here. I'm not sure why you can't grasp that.

Putting a goose egg up against Bama skews that a little. Either way, A&M would've been lucky to win 9 games last season with a great defensive coordinator IMO. Way too many freshman.

A&M leads the nation in average PPG in losses since 2012.

That is a very obvious sign that the issue with our program is the inability to stop teams on defense.

I can't understand it because i see numerous examples of fans discussing their own teams all the time?
And you ares ayign you couldn't discuss Chavis with other SEC fans?

That's just silly.

Because Chavis is statistically the best ever at stopping spread passing attacks.
