From a cultural, football, and geographical perspective FSU and Clemson are by far the best fits. It is what the fans would want.

Agreed.

Virginia Tech is also not a bad option.

They are the Aggy of the East Coast. Pair them up with Aggy as cross division rivals.

Silly. If it made $$$ they would allow it in a heartbeat, and all would be forgiven for the chicken that crossed the road

South Carolina, Florida, and Kentucky have had an agreement to block FSU, Clemson, and Louisville since the first realignment 2+ decades ago when FSU originally turned down the invite.

And FSU wouldn't accept, because, in the words of Bobby Bowden, its easier to win in the ACC

For some reason I think UVA and VaTech are much more likely. UNC has this Texas-esque smug about them.

That was 25 years ago. Value propositions change. Think how vastly different the TV situation was in the early 90s.

A year or two ago, the ACC TV revenue was only $100k/school behind the SEC and now the SEC number is more like $11 million/school more than the ACC.

Why the hell do Kentucky and Aggy care?

Kentucky should be happy to have a couple more football schools to whip up on during basketball season.

It's about exclusivity in the SEC

We support their right to not have an in state rival in the conference

They in exchange will always vote no to tu if they ever came knocking

If you're trying to build a league of so called southern ivies. But that discounts school culture, and I think culture makes Duke a poor choice. Eighty-five percent of their students come from out of state and it doesn't feel particularly southern.

They can schedule an OOC game in basketball each year. They'll be fine

Meanwhile

Mississippi and Alabama have to share two programs each

Anybody who understands why USC left the ACC in the first place, and the history between Carolina/Clemson during that process understands that USC will never vote to allow Clemson in the SEC.

Many of us may have an ambivalent relationship with the SEC, but the prospect of Clemson getting to enjoy the fruits of this conference without having to endure the suffering USC did to earn it is bollocks.

So the SEC is not about exclusivity? Or just for the new guys?

Or is it actually just about money?

And you know damn well that those situations were essentially grandfathered into the league.

Of course, individual schools that have state exclusivity want to keep it, and the conference only wants higher cable/satellite subscriber fees from untapped areas. So that means VA, NC and OK (really only OU) would be the only places from which expansion will happen.

As for what would happen if ACC schools start to jump ship? I suspect UVA and UNC would look toward the B1G as the right fit for them. The SEC would end up with VT and NCSU (both are the better fits culturally anyway).
