I was just thinking about it, and this upcoming hire will be A&M's first hire in baseball as an SEC team. That is how long Childress has coached at A&M. I mean, it isn't easy to fire a coach that gets a Regional on an annual basis.

That's been the issue. Rob has done just enough to get by at every time where it looked like his job might be in jeopardy. He was also bailed out by a change in ADs and covid. However, barring a miraculous turnaround, it looks like time is up.

As to what went wrong, the pitching talent is down a bit (don't have a great Friday starter, yet), but the staff is capable of doing better. But, when you can't hit at all, and make a lot of errors, it doesn't really matter. We went from having a very good offensive team in 2015 and 2016 to having a very anemic offense the last three years. We've been in search of bats all that time but the recruiting has yielded one stud offensive player in that time, and that's not nearly enough.

Well 10 or 11 SEC squads do it a year so that's really not good enough. Time to fire him and pay big bucks if you want to compete.

It's not just that he makes it every year. We do win them occasionally too.

How many coaches have any many skins on the wall as RC?

2 CWS Appearances
6 Supers
13 Regionals
1 SEC Title
5 Big 12 Titles

He's like a Bianco clone. Good, but not good like Corbin, OSullivan, or even DVH.

His contract is up in 2-3 months. We'll make the hire then. It won't be a huge money whip like Jimbo. We'll pull from a lesser program or snag a top assistant. It'll be a risk, but a risk worth taking if the goal is a championship.

It doesn’t do any good to fire Childress - his contract ends this year. It will be interesting to see if he decides to step down. I wonder about the state of the kids on the team

And who is Bjork going to hire? The position is an attractive one, but not elite

Is the Coastal coach still available? I’d look into that and the other coaches that have done more with less. Jokes aside, I hope y’all get it together and are competitive going forward. Much rather see a series come down to the bottom of the 9th in a rubber match than just breeze through y’all. Though I don’t mind that either. Lol.

Chandler 59-84 - 67% win%, 1 CWS births, 5 conference titles
Johnson 85-05 - 67% win%, 2 CWS births, 7 conference titles
Childress 06-21 - 63% win%, 2 CWS births, 3 conference titles

Wow, didn't realize Mark Johnson was also the coach for those late 80s teams.

I guess the thing that has set Childress apart is that he has always been at least "pretty good" every season. Don't remember the last time the Aggies missed a regional and he's taken them to a few. But his best teams, especially the one in 2016, not getting it done in the supers is unfortunately going to be the legacy he leaves behind should he not return for another year (which is 95% likely at this point)

The last time A&M missed the NCAA tournament was 2006, Childress's first year. He has certainly had a high floor, which, in a non-revenue sport, is usually a prescription for job tenure. While his winning percentage is a little bit below Chandler and Johnson, there's no question that he's faced stiffer competition in the SEC. Still, looks like the sands are about to run out of the hour glass.

Aggies are a football school now.

Made the playoff for second in west.
Reloading after Mond.
The new QB will make Mac Jones stat sheets look like a mediocre middle school QB.

What does Las Vegas give as odds for A&M to win nattie this year?

6:5, 8:7???
Guess folks will have to make some Floyd Mayweather weight bets to get a little bit of a payout.
