OK, well here are the three tweets of interest from Looch. WHACK THIS THREAD OR CHANGE THE TITLE TO "A&M TO SEC - NOT QUITE A DONE DEAL (AS USUAL)":
One final B12/SEC point of interest: Texas has ZERO intention of not airing HS games this fall and FULLY intend to air Big 12 game on LHN
More facts: A&M has not sent a "letter of intent" or "Dear John" letter to Big 12, SEC is not targeting OU or any other B12 schools
Facts: Ags still hold SEC invite (always have), SEC will take A&M as 13th team and, IF deal done this month, TAMU would play in SEC in '12

A&M to the SEC probably hurts LSU recruiting in a marginal way - and helps SEC make a bigger footprint into Texas.
The big winner in adding them is probably Arkansas - for whom IMO recruiting Texas is essential and will probably benefit by having a raised presence in Texas to some extent.
I am personally against expanding the SEC for logistical reasons (unless forced by other conferences expanding first i suppose)... I have yet to see a proposal for a 13,14, or 16 team conference that didn't end up with pretty strange football schedules...
For example with 14 teams - six within division games, one fixed cross division opponent and only one rotating cross division opponent... you end up playing other teams in your conference extremely rarely (and there is value in really playing your conference competition IMO - for LSU teams like UGA, UT, KY, even USC would become extremely rare opponents)
Adding a 9th conference game (instead of 8 regular season games) is possible but also undesirable - leading to more unequal schedules with different numbers of home/away games played... fewer home games in general (making less money)... and probably allowing for fewer good out of conference opponents

I don't think we'll have a "true" rival out of anyone. I personally don't want the SEC to change

Everyone just gets rid of their one tough out of conference game. Nothing really changes.

so now we have to put up with Aggie talk on this board? Gosh darnit.
Who else is coming then?
We need to make a concerted effort to haze balls on all of the SEC Rant newbies.

Pigs and farmers
or
Tigers and farmers
Which sounds more appropriate?

I've always been skeptical that A&M could get over all of the political hurdles to do this but Liucci is really putting himself out there. Hard to believe he would beat the drum this hard if it was bullshite.
I hope it is finally done - no more aggie bitching, we load up the LHN with HS football & whatever else we want and I get to watch the Baylor fans freak the frick out as they finally realize that the Longhorns they vilified for years were the only thing keeping them in a BCS conference and that they have now been permanently marginalized by the aggies. That will be funny.
I do feel bad for the rest of the SEC. The aggies are confident that being in the SEC will greatly increase their recruiting of top athletes so if they are correct, they will pretty much dominate the SEC from this point forward.
