I think it's lame A&M is refusing to play Texas.

Pussying out of a rivalry over butthurt is bad form.

The Whorns made their bed and now they have to lie in it...

That said, it is a bitch move by Aggie not to renew the rivalary and in the long run, its good for both programs although the Ags won't see it that way...It WAS a great rivalry and college football would be better for it if its renewed.

What sucks is it gives Aggie something of a scheduling advantage by not playing the rivalry...All rivalry games are notoriously difficult.

UF plays FSU
USCe plays Clemson
UGA plays GT
Bama plays the Iron Bowl
Mississippi schools play the Egg Bowl
UT vs. Vandy is a lot better game

All except LSU but we all know they are bitches and have no rival...

what? People come in and talk down to us like they have an understanding of what's going on. How the frick are we supposed to respond to such a large display of ignorance?

Especially when everyone thought the exact opposite of the issue when we wanted to play them

We should approach it with peace and love. It's just a misunderstanding. If we can just politely explain to them how we are not afraid to play the longhorns, but that it gives them a spotlight and does nothing for our program, they will eventually see our position.

Just keep repeating that we are not afraid, but that, given the circumstances and history between the two, it is best that we decline for now.

I hope that some day everyone will understand our plight and come around to understanding our position on this issue. Until then, please don't pass judgment on us. We are good guys. We promise.

Of course you turn it into a schedule thing

Everyone except LSU plays their rivals whether they are in conference or out.....

Scheduling advantage Aggie....you can't tell me that is not being factored into Aggies' decsion making process.....you get a pass not playing your rival who has a winning record against you and thus have an easier schedule

The rivalry is heating up with things like this. It's like a scab. The longer we wait to scratch it the more satisfying it'll be.

A bama fan commenting about us not playing a rival is incredible. How many years past before the iron bowl started up again?

You're right, RC. You have convinced me.

We need to let these Ranters know our position, because doing so will clear up their misunderstanding. If we just politely explain to them that we are not afraid, but are simply making a wise business decision regarding one of our competitors, everyone will understand.

This is an odd article that makes me question what the hell Brent is up to. The most obvious problem with the article is that there's no mention of Texas wanting to play A&M again, and you won't find it anywhere else, either. As far as I can tell he just approached a few A&M bigwigs and asked something like, "Hey, what if Texas wanted to play you again?"

IOW he's just stirring up shite for no reason.

A&M was straight forward wanting to play them and they did not want to. If I were A&M I would not play those fools until they clearly had the upper hand on UT. UT fans just annoy me to all ends of e earth, especially if I am siding with A&M

Bingo. There's not even a discussion or an offer on the table from either side. Cook's response was, yeah, we'd like to play them in a bowl game or something. They kinda screwed up on renewing it right now.

41 years to be exact. The Aubs quit and took their ball home because they pissed about the player per diem...it took the Alabama legislature getting involved to get it started up.

The point is it was renewed and has been played since 1948....and through some rough patches such as the time when the Barners threatened to quit (again) if they couldn't move their home games to Jordan-Hare in 1989 and the recent Updyke incident.

Suck it up and get it going again. Ya'll are representing the SEC now and bitching out in a rivalry games is not how we do things around here.

Somebody paid attention back in 2011.

Either Ranters understand what is going on, or they don't. Not much else we can do about it.

So you guys bitched over refs, didn't play for 40 years, needed state legislature to risk removing substantial parts of your funding before it started up again, annddd you're calling us out for not playing our rival? Gotcha

So because Alabama and Auburn were stupid like 90 years ago that makes it ok for A&M to be stupid now?

I don't understand your point.

Every single person responsible for the Alabama/Auburn game not being played a long time ago is dead and there is universal agreement that it was a stupid thing to not play.

Why not learn from past mistakes?
