Has there been a positive shift of excitement (fans, media, potential recruits, etc.) regarding Texas A&M football compared to Texas football now that yall have joined the SEC? I know that Texas is still the top dog in the state and they finished #2 in recruiting rankings (Rivals), but is there more energy, discussion, and excitement with A&M than Texas?

There is definitely a lot of excitement from our fans, but there's still the media backlash of us leaving. Recruiting has been great and our fans are definitely excited (as we have been for a while) but the media is still criticizing it and discussing the different ways it will go wrong. That will probably never change either.

Screw 'em. Let me give you a little tidbit of information, no one in the SEC gives two shits about Texas. Sure, they have all the money and facilities, etc..but we really feel like we can roll out 7 or 8 teams (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, and now South Carolina) that would whip their arse regularly. If I was a Texas recruit, I don't see how you couldn't be more excited about A&M football compared to Texas.

I live in Louisiana. We still don't give a shite about UTa here but now have interest in A&M

This is why we're excited. There have been lots of quotes and stories lately that pretty much imply that we are "leaving the state of Texas", even though we still play a very similar amount of games there. Recruits have seen through it so far

I think once we actually start playing GAMES in the SEC we'll be able to truly judge the level of media coverage, for better or worse.

If you live in Texas, whether you love or hate A&M, you will be watching A&M football in the SEC. Its funny seeing tu and Gaylor fans try to say how A&M is now dead to them, and they aren't the least bit interested in A&M or SEC football......riiiight. Every single one of those households will be tuned in to A&M-Florida at Kyle Field in September, and everyone in the local and national media will take notice too.

It's all potential energy right now. Once SEC teams start coming to Texas, it'll be Kinetic. Just give it a little time.

Texas, Baylor and Tech fans will all be tuned in to our games on TV to root against us. That's definitely certain. It will be interesting to see how the SEC is covered once the season starts, especially in Houston where there's so many LSU fans as well.

yep. winning your share of games will shut them up too. tejas is jealous and pissed that they no longer have control over a&m. you are no longer their little brother and have to subserviate your interests to theirs.

I'm telling ya, yall need to go on some A&M road games. Visit Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, Gainsville, Athens, Knoxville, Auburn, Columbia, etc...you just "think" football is big in Texas. It's on a whole different level in the SEC. I've been to two games in Austin (Texas vs. Colorado - 2001 and Texas vs. Nebraska - 2003) and the atmosphere and energy doesn't even come close to rivaling a big SEC school. You're in for a treat.

There's a concerted effort by the Big 12 Texas schools, as well as OU and OSU, to marginalize A&M in the state. The media is certainly jumping in on this as well.

The general idea pitch is that Texas is a Big 12 state and Texas kids belong in a Texas conference. Now, the ancillary arguments to drive this position are just full of holes. However, that doesn't matter because the media is firmly on the side of the opposition.

That all being said, recruiting is going well and Sumlin is really taking a progressive approach with regard to embracing the SEC. He's all over the place right now.

In the end, no real effects will take place until the 2015 class. If A&M is getting pounded in the 2014 season, then the aforementioned concerted effort will definitely take its toll. However, if A&M is able to win, even marginally (i.e. consecutive 8 win seasons), then it just won't matter. At that point, the facts will show that A&M can win enough for the top kids to be sold on promises of future glory in the league. At the very least, it would show that A&M is not a doormat which is what the opposition is praying will happen for an extended time. Now, the sales pitch and the allure of the SEC is much more legitimate and the negative recruiting line of "So what if you're playing in the SEC, you'll only lose", is proven wrong. The kids will flock to the idea of really being able to win in the best conference representing Texas because those consecutive winning seasons show there's a real push happening.

A lot of work to be done. Sumlin really has an opportunity here.

First off, who gives a flying f### about Baylor. Seriously. Second, who gives a damn about Texas? They aren't an Alabama. They aren't Florida. They aren't LSU. They aren't Georgia. They aren't Tennessee. They aren't Auburn. Let them enjoy their games against Baylor, Tcu, Texas Tech, Kansas, and so on. They know deep down they couldn't hang with the "big boys." They'll snicker at A&M or try and slander yall in anyway possible, but at least yall had the sack to join up and play with the best.

Another rantard that assumes Aggies are oblivious to SEC football prior to Septenber of 2012
