Gonna leave it open for a couple more days like I promised the board in the OP, then take it up to Chicken. He has the final say anyway, not me.

Just rustling Drac Sanction's jimmies a little bit about his comment on Coach Bryant's Maryland gig. Chill out...I'm just picking.

Didn't read the thread, but here is the deal.
1) It was 4 years not 3.
2) He took over a program that won just over 3 games a year the past 8 years and turned them into finishes of #17, #5, & #9. The final season would have been even better if it wasn't for word that the Bear was leaving. A&M lost their final 3 games and still finished 9th.
3) The way he turned things around. The story of how he took them to Junction, chased off the slackers, and only have enough players to barely field a team.
He's highly thought of, but not nearly as big of a deal in Aggieland as the Rant thinks.

I partially agree with OP but Bryant was probly the most famous coach we've ever had and still left one of the most significant marks on A&M regardless of how small the time.

Because they ain't Texas and they're lookin' for anything to seem relevant in the state. aTm is a lot like Auburn. Always trying to shake the mantel of little brother.

I've done nothing but support A&M. Support does not = hounding.

Instead of Bryant, name it after gene stallings.
He is a trustee. Former coach(more than three years), won a championship, junction boy, hof college coach(thanks to his years at Bama).
Seriously y'all should start lobbying for this.m

In 8 years at UK I do not think Bear Bryant ever beat Neyland and Tennessee. Some say it was the gold Caddy vs the gold lighter but other say it was the losses to the Vols. Homer Norton took TAMU to the Cotton Bowl x 2, the Orange Bowl, and the Sugar Bowl (where TAMU claimed the 39' MNC) and sits in the HoF. Folks say even with all that he lost the job because he could not beat Texas more. Here was the Bear's record vs Texas while he was there and you decide.
1954 : @ Texas : L 13-22
1955 : Texas : L 6-21
1956 : @ Texas : W 34-21
1957 : Texas : L 7-9

Homer Norton, not Homer Drew.

Bear;s name showing up on our stadium drawings resulted in a great deal of discussion. It is widely thought the Architects put it there as a place holder.
The general consensus among Aggies was that while we recognize his contributions at A&M, Bear Bryant belongs to Alabama. We do not believe it is appropriate for his name to be on the Kyle Field entrance.
As suggested there would be a lot of support for Gene Stallings name to be posted.
