No. Bryant became a legend at Bama, not aTm. It's almost like they're taking credit for starting him off...
Hey, we gave Bama Bear, and in return, got FRAN. Let us claim him a bit!

Yep, the "war" decades weren't too kind to our program either, being a military school back in the day.

Wouldn't you want your program to be associated with a legend? Kind of where the legend starts. Junction boys and all.
Nope, the legend starts at Maryland. Broke a ton of NCAA rules in just one season.

Still, if A&M would've beaten Rice, they would've played in the championship.
Uhh, they lost their next game to Texas, too.
Bear Bryant never beat Darrell Royal.
ETA: And what's this "would've played for the championship" stuff? Were you born in 1998 or something? They would've gone to the Cotton Bowl... there was no "national championship game" until 1998.
ETA 2: Very, very rarely, the bowl games (tied in to conferences) featured No. 1 vs. No. 2.
The only one I can think of off the top of my head was the 1987 Fiesta Bowl with Penn St. vs. Miami (1 vs. 2, both independents).

I could care less if his name is on the stadium. He was a great coach at A&M and obviously went on to do bigger and better things at bama. I do not understand some Aggies' infatuation with BB. He brought us a Heisman winner but I contribute that to the individual player much more than the coach
Only thing I'm concerned about is the future and winning our first SECCG
I do find the history interesting between Bama and A&M, through the Bryant and Fran years.

I think misery fans have much more to worry about. Also, then only team that should be critical of anything we do with the Coach Bryant's name would be bama, so kindly shut the frick up.

However, can you imagine what Bear would've done for A&M if he hadn't accepted the Alabama job in 1957? Damn...you were that close. That close.
No they weren't....Bryant left becuase he felt like he could never compete with UT for recruits.....that and College Station was a shitehole with all the charm of a state prison

Whoa there buddy. Calm the frick down! This thread was not a thread aimed at flaming or trolling the A&M fan base. It was a legitimate question and I simply wanted your opinions, not some jackass trying to be an e-badass.
Lame bro.

I don't necessarily believe College Station to be a shithole.

Not true...largest student body section in the nation. Don't have a link but my guess based on going there was the percentage of students attending the games is also one of the highest in the nation as well.

Meh Bear Bryant contributed the Junction Boys (turned into a film), produced our first Heisman winner in John David Crow, and coached/employed Gene Stallings who would go on to win us a Conference Championship and a Cotton Bowl victory over the Bear himself who was then coaching at his Alma Mater.
Bryant certainly accomplished/contributed way more at Bama but for a small military school in East Texas (at the time that's all it was anyways) it was/still is a pretty big deal for folks back then. Undoubtedly as a school that honors traditions and memories past A&M would hold Bryant in high esteem. The fact he went on to be one of the greatest college ball coaches of all time only adds to the prestige.

Bear only played DKR once at A&M so that's not some monster claim.
Bear's last year was my Dad's Sr year. Word did leak he was leaving before Rice and the team came out flat and actually lost the last 3 games (Rice, Texas, and UT in the Gator Bowl) all by a FG or less. They were the #1 team in the country though prior to that with the Heisman winner coming off an undefeated Top 5 Finish so they were certainly positioned perfectly to win the Natty.
As for his name on the stadium I have heard from multiple sources that was just a mock up for the demo. Sounds better than "Big $ Ag #2" or the like.

Coach Bryant wanted to play Texas more, but the option was more common then and it wouldn't have been fair to injure all their quarterbacks in one game.
I wonder if Colt McCoy's granddad was available?
