The "cheer" group is a competitive cheer organization that does not appear at games, but goes to cheerleading (essentially, sort of gymnastics) competitions.
FYI for the unitiated: the Yell Leaders lead "yells" (we don't do cheers) at football and basketball (they don't appear at baseball). So, at a basketball game, you'll see both yell leaders and the dance team, but not cheerleaders.
