A&M and UT could both learn a lesson from the Bama and AU rivalry

It would be good for college football if you two would put aside your animosity for each other and just play the damn game. Auburn and Alabama were on similar footing for many years and refused to play each other - but now see how good it is for the game that the rivalry is back on? College football is better off with AU and Alabama having such a heated rivalry and it would be much better off if the two best football programs in the state of Texas would put aside their differences and make it happen

We call them TU, because they are simply another Texas University. The State flagship was founded the previous decade just outside of Bryan.

In 1839, the Congress of the Republic of Texas ordered that a site be set aside to meet the state's higher education needs. After a series of delays over the next several decades, the state legislature reinvigorated the project in 1876, calling for the establishment of a "university of the first class." Austin was selected as the site for the new university in 1881

quote:

Sec. 10. ESTABLISHMENT OF UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS; AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT. The legislature shall as soon as practicable establish, organize and provide for the maintenance, support and direction of a University of the first class, to be located by a vote of the people of this State, and styled, "The University of Texas," for the promotion of literature, and the arts and sciences, including an Agricultural, and Mechanical department.

quote:

Sec. 13. AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE. The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, established by an Act of the Legislature passed April 17th, 1871, located in the county of Brazos, is hereby made, and constituted a Branch of the University of Texas

Texas has always been more interested in interstate rivals. Hence Texas-OU.

I'd be more interested in a Texas/Ark resumption or Texas/LSU game.

The comparison is also not really apt because all you have in Alabama in the main conferences is Alabama and Auburn. If Texas and Texas A&M were the only main conference schools in Texas, the comparison might be apt.

Had A&M been the dominate force in Texas football in the 20th century, the comparison might be more apt as well, but the Ark-Texas games were much bigger than the Texas-A&M games.

It would be stupid for the Aggies to give UT that much publicity.

That's why we tip our hat to the Sugar Bowl committee, LSU and Alabama for giving us a chance to matter again.

I don't think we will fall as deeply in love with Alabama for pushing our shite in, but A&M certainly has been smitten. Who knows?

When they do start playing the game again all the current folks in power will be remembered as a bunch of chickenshit Nancy boys while A&M and Texas fans argue over who was scared to play the game. Everyone else will know they were both scared.

Other than some posters on this board, nobody really cares, or will care in the future. The last near decade has been A&M getting used to the conference, and Texas trying to turn their program around. Both much more important projects than playing a game that was irrelevant to the national college football scene.

Another reason why the Auburn-Alabama comparison is dumb.

Ladies and gentlemen of the SEC Rant, I must repost this passage for purposes of posterity, because it cuts to the heart of the matter, and is truly the essence of why aggy hates the Longhorns:

They are not The University of Texas and it fricking kills them little by little, day by day.

But....they are.

Eventually it will happen, and my guess will be in the next few years. I grew up with the damned game, so you don't have to preach to me

We never lost to Texas once when I was in school

why would we want to be younger, smaller and not in a college town that revolves around the university?

the very fact A&M is older, larger and in a college town that revolves around A&M is why you are here every single day. it makes you mad
