That’s a good one.

I will be disappointed if we don’t get LSU but this conference has so many ways to approach it

I'm not telling you how it is..

I'm trying to look at it from the SEC Offices perspective..

I know you're not the one making the call.
just giving my opinion on it as well.

Alabama vs LSU and Florida vs LSU bring in more eyeballs than any of the other matchups being discussed, so the SEC office will likely try to keep those alive.

12 teams have Thanksgiving matchups

4 teams do not..

the rotation when Aky/Mizzou/OU fall on the schedule that another poster mentioned solved that problem.
there is no law that says your Thanksgiving week opponent has to be the same every year.

As for the round robin you speak of.. I'd prefer to play Tennessee or LSU each year.. guess what, no one cares about that request.

LSU vs Alabama is one of (if not THE) most watched games in the entire country every single year.

so it's not just me that wants that game to be played, it's all the TV guys, and probably the vast majority of both fanbases, as well as basically the whole country.

are all playing each other because no one else wants to play us

not that we don't want to play y'all, I'd love to play Texas a lot more often than we do.
but we can only have 3 permanent opponents.
and tradition allegedly still means something.

sorry to Arkansas and Oklahoma, but LSU has played Alabama more times than they've played those 2 teams combined.
Same with Ole Miss.
Harry Truman was the still President the last time a football season happened where LSU didn't play Florida.

LSU must have Arkansas or Oklahoma for Thanksgiving.
but why?
LSU can't have an open date the final weekend, per conference rules (no one gets a potential week off before the championship game). So, unless LSU has worked something out with a non-conference opponent for a long-term rivalry weekend slot, then the choices are: (1) give LSU a permanent opponent that they can play the final weekend; or, (2) have four teams with no set final weekend opponent and rotate them.

that's the best option to still keep actual traditional rivalries alive

It's certainly something to think about, but, it would also foreclose the possibility that Missouri and OU might rekindle their ancient out of conference rivalries and play them the final weekend.

part of what makes college football great is the rivalries.
you just don't see that level of intensity in other sports' rivalries.

and I really don't want to see those go away.

LSU and Oklahoma have played each other 4 times total in their histories.
could it possibly develop into a rivalry? sure I guess that's possible.

and nothing against Arkansas, that's been a fun series, just the true "hate" never really developed there between the two teams.
neither team's fault, just hasn't had enough of those games or "moments" that fans talk about for years and year afterward.

LSU/Bama has had those games and moments
LSU/ Ole Miss has had them
LSU/Florida has had them
LSU/Auburn has had them (despite not playin each other a whole lot before the '92 expansion)
hell, LSU and A&M has had more of them since 2012 than LSU/Arky has since 1992.

and I don't want that to go away.
as an LSU fan in particular, I really don't want my school to be the one that gets more tradition taken away than other schools do all in the name of "progress"

Texas A&M is prolly gonna get screwed on this deal.

I bet we lose traditional rivals Arkansas and LSU and gain Mizzou and OU, two teams we only have a fraction of the history with. This will be solely based on a brief Big 12 connection with the two.
