so frickin what. 1800s? really? OM was better than Florida in the 50s and 60s... does that mean OM has a better program? You look at the complete body of work. All the NC all the SEC championships.. you don't just look at the last 5-10 years and especially not the first 5-10. I mean are you seriously bragging that when football first started at the schools in 1800's auburn was better?

"I'm going to take your points down one at a time:

Contrary to what you have been told AUBURNis the program that started the football dominance that this great state enjoys:

Auburn defeated Alabama in the first 2 Iron Bowls in Feb. 1893 and Nov. of 1893, then won the next 5 of 7 in 1895,1900,1901,1902, and 1904. Alabama won two of the first nine contest in 1894 and 1903. I'm not living in the past it just take a lot of education to undo what you've been culturally ingrained to believe. Auburn started as the elite program in this state. To be continued..."

I know more football than you ever thought of. No Auburnwasn't 'elite' and they didn't start the football dominance of the south. Alabama did. Auburn was a regional power until 1957. Georgia Tech and Texas A&M had respected teams in 1917 and 19 respectively, but it was Alabama that earned the respect of the nation for southern football by winning the 1926 Rose Bowl. By the way, how many rose bowls was Auburn invited to? Thats what I thought.

Beating a start up Alabama team makes AU elite?

Neither one of us were worth a damn back then. Alabama got itself together and became one of the top 3 greatest football programs of ALL TIME... Auburn- not so much.

Point 1- dismissed.

You are exactly who I think you are, and your last post just proves it beyond all doubt. All you do is try to stir the pot by saying a bunch of ridiculous BS to draw people into stupid arguments with you. That is your M.O. as a poster, as it has been on your other 25 alters.

If any of you are like me, you've wandered over to ITAT on occasion when you needed a good laugh. I found a thread there titled, "How long to overtake bammer?" which, as you might expect, was basically a thread asking Aubs how long they thought before their program became the cream of the crop in the state and conference. I quoted some responses below because I thought they were pretty hilarious. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I live by two hard and fast rules:

1 - Don't mess around with expiration dates when you're dealing with microwave popcorn.

2 - Never doubt Robot Santa. Ever.

Point 1- Alabama won with scholarship advantages. Guess what, Auburn had the EXACT SAME rules as Alabama. There wasn't a special "Bama Rule" which gave Alabama 130 scholarships and Auburn 85- they had the exact same rules. Guess what that means??? That's right Cheryl- there was no advantage!!!

I don't blame you for believing what you have been told. I will only ask that you think about one thing. Why were the rules changed to limit scholarships. It's not that Alabama was this magical entity that all of the great recruiters have a deep divine loyalty. It was and has always been about money, brother. The reason Alabama had the advantage under the old system was because they were willing to spend the most money to get into the political machine that was high school football in states like Texas. Bear Bryant didn't leave Arkansas because he felt he was called by God to lead the thin red line to the promised land. He left his home state of Arkansas because he knew the bureaucrats in Alabama valued football enough as a political tool with the people to fix the system so that Alabama could build an economic empire around the sport. You are the logical ends of those politician's goals. I know it hurts, but it is the truth. Do you really believe that the Bear loved the State so much that he just had to move here and create a dynasty because he was on a mission from God? Really? The truth is that the people of Alabama found an ideal to get behind and were willing to put the money up to win at all costs. That included creating a system of incentives and benefits to football coaches throughout the southeast and southwest not only to bring the best players to alabama, but also to ensure that none of the best or even decent players went anywhere else. Look up the history of the grey shirt team at UA and the freshmen and JV teams. Those kids didn't come to UA because they wanted to be stars or even play, they came because they were promised a life of luxury and jobs in the crooked farm insurance industry that was the logical ends to life as an UA backup. These were the facts of the day and that is why the rules were changed.

Which leads me to the rarely-talked-about-yet-still-crucial Life Rule #3:

Never get so drunk or stoned that you will eat expired microwave popcorn.

Bill, I thought you said you spent half your life writing about this rivalry. If thats true, how are so ill informed as to how Bryant came to Alabama. He came AS A PLAYER GENIUS! NOT A COACH! Thats right, Bryant came as an 18 year old kid to play for a team that had been to the Rose Bowl (three times by the time he got here). He was given the opportunity in a pool hall when Hank Crisp came to recruit another kid. He left Texas A&M to coach his Alma Mater- which was the most common destination for the best coaches then. Please do some research before you call me out again.

Oh, and I know the NCAA made rule changes that affected teams like USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklhoma, Michigan, just becuase of Alabama. GAWDAM aint we special!
By the way, the first scholarship limits (105) occured in 1973. The next limit (95) occured in 1978. The last (85)occured in 1992. We have national titles in all those periods. How bout Auburn?
