AU deserves any and all plays that bend the rules and norms of the game to go against them for decades to come. Their entire offensive identity under Malzahn was stretching the rules to gain an advantage. HUNH without fair defensive substitution, linemen blocking down field on pass plays, pick plays, you name it. The NCAA had to rewrite half the book to account for them.
Having said that, the issue here isn't whether the receiver tried to deceive the refs, which he clearly did not by checking in standing right next to him. It's whether he tried to deceive the opponent with a simulated substitution, which he clearly did.
The ref either misinterpreted, misapplied, or simply was unaware of the rule (as were 99.9% of people watching) until the rules expert explained it on TV. The SEC issued a statement clarifying and I highly doubt it happens again this season. Tough luck AU. shite happens.

it doesn’t fit their narrative
You mean the narrative officially released by the SEC office stating that a flag should have been thrown?

Pick plays? Now you're lying.

No, the SEC office statement about this being a rule violation is wrong.
The amount of delusion and hubris of OK fans is astounding, it’s only surpassed by their trashiness and complete lack of integrity.
Garbage program
Garbage fans
It’s only taken a little over one season to turn the whole conference against you.
When IK & Texas were brought into the conference, in general most SEC fans welcomed Oklahoma and respecting their program and fans. But what I’ve seen since Saturday is all of that respect and goodwill has been destroyed. The reaction from fans of not only Auburn, but virtually all other SEC programs has been virtually unanimous.
Oklahoma is seen as a crooked program that resorts to illegal cheap tricks to win and their fans are seen to knowingly support it. You’ve quickly become loathsome to the rest of the conference. Crooked, dishonest, and a bunch of cheaters.
And while we hate each other in the SEC, we at least respect one another. No one respects Oklahoma. And that’s Oklahoma’s own fault.

seems like when the NCAA had to rewrite the rulebook for the numerous recruiting loopholes that Saban exploited over the years, your reaction was less contrite and more along the lines of ‘lol, you losers should have taken advantage yourselves, you got schooled by the GOAT’

How about you tell me why the rules analyst on TV, the SEC office, and and your own beat writer are wrong.

The announcers tried their hardest to whip Auburn fans into a frenzy, and it worked. They sounded more biased than the local university radio broadcasters.
Wrong. The fact is it was just that obvious that the officials had been told to favor OU that game. We all saw it. Many of us could have cared less who wins and we all saw OU getting help from the officials.
Without the officials Auburn wins that game easily.

You won.
We lost.
Game over.
On to A&M.

Great. Those refs should get harsher discipline than missing the call in the heat of the moment. Thanks for bringing it to the conference’s attention.

The SEC office can be wrong even though they are the prevailing authority.
They can say whatever the frick they want without repercussion. It is very easy for them to say what they did after the fact.
It is a judgement call. I disagree with their judgement.

These tards are still throwing out whataboutisms like "wUt aBoUt fAkE FiELd GoWLz" when the rule is clearly about deceptive substitution techniques.

It still was not enough to take the smirk on the face of Auburns defensive coordinator

It is a judgement call. They all misinterpreted Sategna's intent. All he did was walk to the spot where he was supposed to line up. Any other intention ascribed to him by the TV analysts, SEC office, or a beat writer is pure speculation.

I was wondering if Arbuckle was aiming this at Durkin:
