A little tidbit on LSU history....

It was none other than former LSU Football coach and then sec Comissioner Bernie Moore who almost single-handily dictated UK basketball's cancelation of the 52-53 season. He did his over UK players receiving $25-$50 for previous NCAA tournaments while at the same time, blatantly allowing football players to get $200-$250 for bowl games.
Of course, UK was scheduled to play at LSU that year. So they lost their home game vs UK. The next year, LSU was scheduled to play in Lexington but demanded UK play at LSU so they would get their home game back. UK said no and LSU actually refused to play. The two teams did not play each other in the regular season. They did actually have he same conference record though and ultimately played a post-season tie-breaker to determine the SEC Champ. UK won.

It was more of a defacto NCAA tournament play-in game (played for the conference's automatic bid) than a "tie-breaker" between the SEC co-champions.
