honestly this scenario is worse than if you blew the stop sign. At least then you could claim you didn't see it. Stopping and voluntarily driving into a collision is so much worse.

You pulled out in front of someone when you didn’t have the right of way. They didn’t have adequate time to stop and adjust to your violation of the laws of the road. That’s your fault.

A stop sign in that situation means stop until it is clear to go. You are in the wrong.
