I see you've adopted the "if our peers are good then we are good" approach to college football.
More like "if the bills are paid we get laid." I will let you work out the details.

I don't follow recruiting that closely so I went and researched Tate Martell. He committed to Washington as an 8th grader! So an A&M coach is pissed about a kid de-committing and refers to loyalty, YET they recruited him and made an offer even though he was committed elsewhere?
Sounds kind of hypocritical to me!

Idk how you can continue to pretend to be happy TAMU is paying Sumlin.

My favorite part was the "texastough" hashtag from the coach. You've got to give Texans one thing, they're consistent with the BS chest thumping and self love. Please tell us all how great you are some more.

meh, if they dont have the chest we dont want em
amirite?

Moorhead was right. We don't need those kids if they can't handle what he said. They can be someone else's problem.
I just read the whole deadspin article. The kids came across as brats to be honest. Nothing the coach said bothered me.

Agree completely but at the end of the day TAMU has a negative perception right now. Sumlin seemingly has no control over his program.
Also blows my mind that high profile team's coaches feel the need to voice their opinions on twitter so often. I said the same when Bielema was blasting Wisconsin fans on twitter a few years back. Just, why? It quite literally can not do anything but harm you and you lose all ability to control the narrative.

Fairness is an imaginary concept. It doesn't apply to football and it doesn't apply to life.
Agreed. Nothing about my post indicated any sense of fairness being required, just that it's awfully hypocritical to chastise kids for not remaining loyal when it is his job and duty to go get kids to come to his school oftentimes regardless of prior commitment. If a coach's signed contract doesn't constitute a real "commitment", why the hell should a teenager's word be considered one?
quote:
All that matters is leverage, how much you do or do not have.
Interesting choice of words here. What leverage does a university have on a kid that hasn't signed a LOI? Hint: next to none if they're an elite recruit
Again, it wasn't the kid who went on a tirade about loyalty and kids being soft. It was your coach, and no matter whether it was an accurate portrayal or not, it was a dumb decision to put it out there.
quote:
If any coaching staff ever made some sort of "honor code" about their offers it wouldn't signal moral strength, it would signal a lack of leverage. Kids pick up on that kind of beta shite and it wouldnt work in the favor of the program. Practically it's a nonstarter, as is the concept that commitments from recruits will mean more than they do in the current system.
That's an awful lot of words to essentially say that you agree with me that the coach's comments about loyalty are dumb, and I guess at the same time indicating that aTm has no leverage and is a beta program?
Put simply, a coach that is living in a world of double standards should probably recognize that the so called loyalty that he's upset that kids don't have, he has already demonstrated a lack thereof upon leaving his previous job, so probably should keep his mouth shut. There was no upside to the comments, so why make them?

So much of this... unless it's Rah Rah stuff or celebrating wins (games or on the recruiting trail), what value is Twitter adding for these guys. When you make 100s of thousands (or millions for head coaches) annually, Social Media is not your friend. It's not the place to go vent frustrations. Pay a therapist and move on. There is no upside...
I said this earlier, but ultimately it's not that what he said was that bad, simply that the scrutiny that it will come under makes him as well as the university look worse. It's just not bright.

Eh, these tweets or subtweets (whatever the frick that even is) didn't change anyone's mind about where they wanted to go.
What they did do was provide a convenient excuse to decommit.

Moorehead's sensitive arse is from Colorado and played college ball in Illinois. Yet, he 'guards A&M football with his life.' Something is seriously wrong with the mental state of that institution and town.

And a decidedly inconvenient national story about A&M's shitty coaching staff. It's not these decommits that I am worried about.
