and it just so happened it was in Atlanta against Georgia Tech who also started a black QB, Eddie McAshan. Tennessee won, 34-3.

And Bill Battle, one of Bear's Boys was the head coach. He was also 0-3 against BAMA. Freshman couldn't play.

Wow. Thank you so much for shoe-horning BAMA into a post that has NOTHING to do with Alabama.

Bumbles left the SEC in the 60's, this game was in the 70's. Who cares about them by then?

Sure it did. He was an Alabama kid from around Huntsville. He was recruited by Bear Bryant. He was directly told by coach Bryant he was being recruited as a D-back. "The state wasn't ready for a black QB."

Know your history.

I assure you I know 1000 times more SEC history than you do. You are simply a sad little obsessed Gump who's whole world is centered around the Tide.

My post had NOTHING to do with Alabama.

Holloway is also one of only three UT baseball players ever to have their jersey retired.

On a related note, Walter Lewis is often remembered at Alabama since he actually started in the '80s, but Michael Landrum was actually the first black quarterback to play at Alabama, as a member of the 1979 national championship team.

Mine too, and he was an Alabama man. But he was also a Huntsville boy and all of Huntsville loved Holloway 364 days out of the year.

The Kenny Chesney special on SEC Network about him a few years ago was fantastic.

Of course it did. because alabama fans can't have a conversation about anything, much less football, without bringing alabama into it. we know.

Damn y’all are sensitive as frick. Condredge Holloway is an Alabama native and still kind of a State of Alabama legend even though neither Alabama nor Auburn signed him. Holloway’s account of his recruitment by Bryant and even George Wallace is really cool for anyone interested in college football history. The Artful Dodger is a Tennessee football legend but his ties to Alabama are relevant enough to mention without getting all pissy.

Yes,that was a great followup post, wasn't it? Really goes into depth about Holloway and his recruitment, didn't it?

Those racists in Alabama point blank told him he could not be the starting quarterback there because he was black.

Well look at this way, what you deem to be a non sequitur has at least kept your informative thread on the front page. So there is a silver lining for you. Threads kind of meander on here. If you haven’t noticed.

Anyway, the Holloway story (all of it) is fascinating.
