Same in Fayetteville. You go out for dinner around 7:30 or 8:00. An old-arse like me, has a few drinks, hits a few bars, and leaves by 10:30 or 11:00, because that is when shite starts getting wild.

The earlier you head downtown, the easier it is to park. I'm old like that.

(You do realize I'm joking around... right? I can honestly say that Tuscaloosa is nowhere near the shithole that Cleveland and Buffalo are. )

I was in Fayetteville for a game a few years ago, and was stunned when I couldn't buy beer before 10 (I think 10 maybe 10:30am?) Anyway, standing in line, some Arky fan sees me and does the "shite, I bet you Aubies are thrilled to be somewhere you can buy beer legally." I replied that we happen to be civilized in Auburn, you can buy beer around the clock.

I have several friends from school that call Louisville home and I have been there many times. It is a great town and I love going there but it is not in any shape or form what could be considered a "college town". That is about like calling Nashville a college town.

In Lexington, we rarely got to the bar before 11. And usually it was closer to 12.

Fayetteville bars close at 2. So 11-2 is the prime drinking time. If the bars here stayed open til 4 like they do in LR, I would have never graduated.

Did they think Alabama still had prohibition on the law books??

Last call is 2:30 in Lexington. We were rarely the last to leave, though. 2 hours in a bar, after pre gaming all night, is more than enough.

I usually miss the point in ranking Notre Dame in the pre-season, but they always make all the lists. Know what I'm sayin?

Was that at a bar or at a store?

Blue laws are mostly dumb. Until recently, all beer in NWA was purchased at liquor stores only. That had more to do with the local liquor mafia lobby than anything. Now you can buy beer at gas stations and grocery stores.

I know when I lived in Dallas, liquor stores closed at 9:00pm.

When I was in college, Fayetteville liquor stores closed at 11:00 pm, but Springdale ones stayed open until midnight. Like 5 minutes away. I made many late runs to Springdale for beer back then.

Any list that doesn't have Chapel Hill isn't worth reading in my opinion.

Yeah that annoys me.

DC is always listed on the Princeton Review's best college towns list. I know there are several schools here, but DC isn't a college town. If Georgetown, AU, GWU, and Howard dropped off of the map, DC would still largely be DC.

Yeah, that's off. Besides, if you were going to include big cities like that, then I would easily have Boston > Washington DC.

It was a liquor store. It was one of those crappy 1130 Jefferson Pilot kick-offs and we had drank most of our beer on the drive over. Now I stay up near the airport and buy it on the way to the game.

And honestly, Fayetteville should have made this list, it is my favorite SEC away destination.

I have never been to College Station, but I agree on the others. It's easily better than Oxford and Auburn. It's on par with Athens. Some might like Chapel Hill better, some might like Athens. It's really a win-win situation. I spent a lot of time at both (the Cougars didn't have a football team ) and they are both fantastic.
