The guy is always work (as you stated), and he knows that other sports being successful helps the football team be successful. Bring recruits to big time basketball games. Talk to the gymnastic team before their title match. Point out the script A on the softball players jersey as they lift the trophy to a recruit. Success breeds success.

Saban basically made the decision for Mal about Gottfried. He personally recruited Anthony Grant. He takes golf lessons from Jay Sewell and meets with the golf recruits. Saban gave the gymnastics team a pep talk before their title meet....

These coaches bum into each other. Not only do I not doubt Saban tuned into tonight,I doubt Oklahoma State loses to Iowa State had the plane crash that killed the women's hoops coach not happened.
It is strech to think he will use the softball analogy to motivate a roster full of hood rats but the claims he did not watch are equally wack.

Hey, is this 4 or 5 national championships this year? I thought we had cheerleading, softball, womens golf, football and gymnastics...am I misremembering something?

I think cheerleading is considered a true 'club' sport, like rugby, not officially recognized by NCAA regarding stats, championships, etc. I think this is so.
