Still waiting for evidence that UA's financials are in bad shape for pursuing enrollment growth.

Where did anyone say UA's has financial issues because of growth ? The University of Phoenix doesn't have any financial issues either, since they just relieved students of $150M in student aid. That still doesn't relieve the citizens of Alabama from the skyrocketing cost of Higher Education. OOS jump at the opportunity of paying OOS Tuition in Alabama, because it is still cheaper than many of their local colleges. Of course you being from GA, you wouldn't have any skin in the game.

Well it certainly was implied. If UA was in a financial situation as a result of its enrollment growth, then you would have a point.

But you really seem to have a very narrow idea of what is good for the state of Alabama. UA's enrollment growth and ability to attract so many OOS students has dramatically improved the quality of its student body. It has enabled it to devote more money to research programs and faculty hires. It has enabled it in fact to keep tuition lower than it would otherwise be and it has enabled it to offer more scholarships to in state students. It has helped UA improve its already beautiful campus and has helped it add amazing new academic facilities. Finally, it has caused at least some of these OOS students to become productive Alabama citizens. By these metrics, UA's enrollment strategy has been a huge plus for the state of Alabama. Then again, if you don't think UA's wellbeing is Alabama's wellbeing, then you will never be able to see that you are wrong.

Nobody implied either school is suffering financially. As a matter of fact is was stated by a few here that the growth was a money grab, for the future and the present.

It is not good for the State of Alabama to have the Universities filled with interlopers. They come and take advantage of a good education on the backs of generations of taxpayers and then leave the state for good. Never to add to the taxbase of Alabama and never to contribute to primary and secondary education. This creates the cycle we are in now. We don't have the funding to improve those areas, so we spread eagle so out of staters can use our facilities and infrastructure. All about chasing a list. Our own citizens are left on the curb waving as these individuals leave the state to contribute to their home economy. That is really good for Alabama.
Like I said, lets let OOS use GA Hope Scholarship money to go to UGA and GT, see how long before your fellow Georgians think that is good for Georgia.

The criteria is not something that should have caused the decline, unless everyone else improved. Increasing the number of students alone is not a reason for the decline. What happened?
