LSU playing 3 teams coming off byes, Arkansas, Bama, and State.
Surprised we haven't heard from the LSU fans about this.

You still get your somewhat of a cupcake game but it would be a bit better on the resume compared to CUSA or Sunbelt teams. I know Ole Miss, Arkansas and i believe UT still owe Memphis a home game

Ole Miss just played @ Memphis 2 years ago and are playing @ Memphis again in 2019. UT played @ Memphis in 2010 and they haven't played since. Arkansas hasn't played Memphis since 1998 and the game was @ Memphis.

As far as SEC schools playing AAC schools, who exactly would look better on a resume and what does an SEC school have to gain by playing a good AAC school?

BUT I do agree that Bama needs to step up with more respectible "mid majors" and add a 2nd P5 game most years

Why? I don't see what benefit there is. We played one of the best mid-major teams Fresno State last year, and I doubt the committee gave that much consideration. The SEC West is typically good enough that you don't need a good OOC schedule.

Serious question; why don't SEC teams schedule more AAC teams?

It is weird that SEC teams seem to play more Mountain West than American teams. I understand not wanting to play USF or UCF, but I'm surprised teams like Tulane and ECU don't appear on SEC schedules often.

A) Thanks for the research. Wasnt aware a date had been put on the final Ole Miss game, last I heard they were backing out. As for the UT and Arkansas games, it is my understanding that each series had an open game left (obviously i was incorrect as to where they would be played). Seeing as how both of those teams have been down the past few years i would love to see Memphis play them now rather than later when we go back to being irrelevant.

B) Simply replying to some one else's comment that the "mid major" scheduling needed to be better for some of your teams. Seeing as how the AAC is arguably the best of the G5 conferences (a dwarf among midgets if you will), it would seem drawing OOC games from there would suit you better. Granted, probably would not move the needle in terms of SOS but it would take away the narrative that SEC schools only schedule cupcake G5 teams

C) Yes, selfishly i would like to see more AAC teams play SEC teams because teams like Memphis or UCF or Boise St or Houston are told they need to play better schedules but nobody worth a damn will play us.

I don't think that narrative matters though. In terms of making the playoff, Baylor in 2014 is the only team that has been punished because of their OOC scheduling, and if they'd had a conference title game, it might not have mattered that year. 2016 Penn State, 2017 USC, and 2017 Ohio State all hurt their playoff hopes by losing an OOC game.

The committee has shown that weak scheduling is a better strategy. If I were a big brand, I'd only schedule one tough OOC opponent like Alabama does. If I were a medium brand, I'd schedule weak like Wisconsin in 2017 or Washington in 2016.

Good G5 teams should schedule as hard as possible just to increase exposure, but they honestly have no shot at the playoff. UCF proved that by not even coming close. They were #12 going into the bowl.

The problem with SEC teams scheduling good mid-majors is that they have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Most of the schools in the SEC schedule one game against a solid P5 team, sometimes multiple. The SEC schools never have to worry about SOS given the difficulty of their SEC schedules. Adding a good mid-major to their already difficult schedules could just be a recipe for disaster. They are generally trap games and the mid-major is generally playing their biggest game of the year while the SEC school is just trying to fill their schedule. The SEC school is expected to win and winning these games has no effect on their postseason. However, losing these games can kill their season. Not to mention they generally are paying $1 million to these mid-majors just to play them. So, at the end of the day, there just isn't much of incentive to schedule these types of games.

As a Memphis fan, you still have scheduled plenty of games against SEC schools. You regularly play Ole Miss, State, and Tennessee and are playing Missouri this year. That's about as much as a G5 school can hope for, honestly. Not to mention, you have scheduled UCLA last year, so you're still scheduling some quality P5 opponents.

Tulane plays Ole Miss frequently, play Ohio St this year, Auburn in 2019, State in 2020, Oklahoma and Ole Miss in 2021, Ole Miss and State in 2022, Oklahoma again in 2024 etc. Honestly shocked they got Oklahoma to agree to a H&H. However, I do wish LSU would schedule them more often. I think we should play a game against them in the Superdome every 5 years or so. We used to play them every year until we just stopped for whatever reason in the mid 90s, then renewed the game again in the mid 2000s but haven't played them now since 2009.

ECU has a H&H coming up with South Carolina, but they typically play a lot of games against ACC schools, which makes sense geographically.

I personally enjoy the easy break in the schedule. Good chance to do something for the wife or go camping.

I mean, every other Saturday of the fall, I'm either stressing over my team's ability to win or stressing over other teams' abilities to lose. It wears on you.

I like when we play some our opponents

@ Kansas St - 2nd game for both of us after we play cupcakes in the opening week
@ Kentucky - Well, it's Kentucky but we play them after we play ULL (with a new head coach)
Florida - At home after they play at Tennessee
Auburn - At home
@ LSU - After our bye week and right after they play Georgia
Texas A&M - After their bye week but at least it's a home game
@ Alabama - After they play at LSU
Arkansas - After they play LSU
Ole Miss - Egg bowl to close out our regular season
