Alabama head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant turned the tables on his Cotton Bowl rival. Texas A & M head coach Gene Stallings by showing up at a joint press conference wearing a pair of "Texas Aggies" cowboy boots. Bryant was given the boots by an alumnus when he was head coach at Texas A & M, after his 1956 Aggie team won the Southwest Conference championship. Stallings played for Bryant on that team and was later an assistant coach at Alabama for Bryant before taking the A & M head coaching job.
