Who do you all think is the GOAT Fulmer Cup recipient? I imagine it has to be an East team at the very least.

And also, has Bama ever won it? The closest I can imagine they would come is 2007 or somewhere around there. I think Alabama had something like...24 players either suspended or in jail within a year and a half. Ugly times for Bama those days were...

Can a Big 12 team win it? With Baylor's newest rape arrest today, they have got to be moving on up.

Inb4 "thUGA"

Even though Bama won it before us (2008), both auburn and Arkansas have won it since (2011, 2012), and it was named after a Tennessee coach

Switzer Slam

The "Switzer Slam" is awarded to any program that wins the Fulmer Cup, national championship and has a Heisman trophy winner all in the same year. Auburn is the only team to have ever achieved the Switzer Slam, doing so in 2010-2011.

It is interesting that Vanderbilt won it, but Tennessee hasn't even though it's named after a Tennessee coach.

Yeah. Shawn Oakman was arrested and charged today for sexual assault that happened last week.

There was also an OTL report that said there was an additional incident that happened where Baylor kicked a guy off the team for 'violation of team rules'. Turns out it was because he was accused of sexual assault. This is 4 incidents now.

Take note, this is what a real cover up looks like. "Violation of team rules" that turns out to be that.

Bear Bryant never won the Bear Bryant award either. It was named for him because he was the best at coaching. Fulmer was the best at having arrested drunk drivers and woman beaters. His honor will live on forever.

What a swell guy. Arresting all those folks. Didn't know he was a volunteer deputy.

Lol you know I had to poke fun at how you worded that.

Yeah, Fulmer's lack of discipline along with Cutcliffe leaving the second time was what began the decline.

The AP's national title trophy is also named after Bryant.

Associated Press (1936-present), the first major nationwide poll for ranking college football teams was voted on by sportswriters and broadcasters. It continues to this day and is probably the most well-known and widely circulated among all of history’s polls. The Associated Press annual national champions were awarded the Williams Trophy and the Reverend J. Hugh O’Donnell Trophy. In 1947, Notre Dame retired the Williams Trophy (named after Henry L. Williams, Minnesota coach, and sponsored by the M Club of Minnesota). In 1956, Oklahoma retired the O’Donnell Trophy (named for Notre Dame’s president and sponsored by Notre Dame alumni). Beginning with the 1957 season, the award was known as the AP Trophy, and since 1983, has been known as the Paul “Bear” Bryant Trophy.

Not every team competing for the title gets "professional courtesy" calls from the chief of police. Again, there's a reason the whole thing is named for a Tennessee coach

I don't think professional courtesy would have made a difference in Vanderbilt's case. Four players each raped an unconscious woman on video. That's about as open and shut as it gets. Batey has already been convicted of aggravated rape. Vandenburg will get hit harder.

That whole situation is the reason EDSBS quit doing the Fulmer Cup.
