I look forward to the year auburn doesn't get the opportunity to play Bama at the end of every year to make their entire season. End permanent rivalries.

They don’t want to see money go in state. Didn’t they get the UAB football program disbanded?

If I were the mayor of Auburn, for example, I'd sure want Auburn home games to be bringing people from farther away so they spent more money locally as opposed to driving up from Andalusia and leaving right after the game.

hotels around Auburn are going to be sold out no matter who Auburn plays. Restaurants are going to do just as much business. Playing in-state schools gives them a chance to not only cut down on their cost, it gives them in-state exposure. It is a win/win for everybody involved, including the fans of the smaller school who get to see their team play one of the major in-state schools. What benefit is there for Auburn/bama to play some "sisters of the poor" from another state? The University isn't going to make any more money one way or the other.

ETA IF bama was doing this, bama fans would be screaming from the mountain top what a great gesture it was.

100% agree with this.

Agree with this too. I was really just reacting to the "giving money to the instate school" which I think leaves out a lot of other economic considerations that makes it kind of a wash whether Auburn plays South Alabama or Georgia St.

I still think the economic impact of fans coming to an area from longer distance travelers is more than you're letting on. If I go to see my team play 3 hours away, I'm likely to spend one night. If I go 6-8 hours, I usually try to make a little longer vacation of it and spend a lot more money in that area. Just that.

I wasn't alive then. It was like 1907-1948 or something like that. Were we even in a conference?

Troy fans would pack Bryant Denny, and Tuscaloosa. It would never be as bad as losing to ULM. Period.

auburn has been trying to get control of UAB and divide it against Bama for decades. UAB shouldn't even have a football program. ALABAMA is the University of Alabama's football program.

Stupid. If the reason for playing the smaller schools is to help them out, why would you give that money to only teams out of state?

You are sadly mistaken, Georgia and Clemson are more ALABAMA than ALABAMA.

They have the right not to play them.

I believe it helps your state economy.

But they have the right to schedule any ooc they want.

I see where scheduling tx la ga and fl mid majors could help in recruiting since you have your own state locked down.

They play Auburn so what was wrong with playing the best p4 team in state.

playing AT North Alabama

UNA has one of the prettiest campuses in the state and a nice little downtown area. Stadium stinks, but it used to be the D2 National Championship host site for years.

I think it's cool AU plays the instate schools. Even cooler that AU supports the Birmingham Bowl, so often.

Bama doesn't do either. They basically had to be forced to play AU. AU just seems to love the state much more.
