Here's another.
Dare I say it - Monty Williams (if the Pelicans make a change.)

False. It is a nice package but it is nowhere near that generous.
For employees hired before the most recent retirement change (2013), after 25 years of service you can retire and draw 50% of the average of your 3 highest annual salaries in your last 10 years of service (for most, that's the average of your last 3 years). For each year after that, the amount increases by 2.0125%. IIRC, there's a max percentage but I can't remember it right now.
You can also retire and start drawing benefits immediately once you've got 10 years of service and are over 60 years old and get a pension based on the years * 2.0125 formula.

It appears we have zeroed in on White and Prohm. I'm hoping and praying we go for White. IMHO, I think he's a much better candidate.

The only time a home run hire works out is when a big name, proven coach goes to a historic, powerhouse program (Saban to Bama, Urban to UF & OSU, Calipari to UK, Roy to UNC, etc.).
Even with Auburn and Pearl, there's no guarantee to what the future holds. The same case goes with Bama. No coach that they can hire will guarentee program improvement.
Any hire is going to be a risk. There just needs to be an understanding that whoever they hire might again be fired in 3 to 4 years. There is the chance Bama gets lucky like Tennessee did with Bruce Pearl. There were no signs Pearl was going to be a legit coach in the SEC, but it turns out he was. Prohm, AJ, or Miller could translate into the same type of coach...it's a risk that inevitably has to be taken.

The idea that Avery Johnson was some great player and coach in the NBA is laughable. He averaged 8 points a game as a player. As a coach, he went to the finals 1 time, but he was either eliminated in the first round or missed the playoffs totally every other year
One of the more fun series to watch was the Wizards being the giant killers and taking out the Mavs in the first round of what I think was the 2007 play offs. The Mavs only lost what, like 15 games in the reg. season?

Hopefully as nothing but backup plans.

On a positive note for you bammers....Clay Travis ranked your open position above Kim Anderson when it comes to SEC Basketball coaches. So you have that going for you.

So how long do you think his contract will be in case it doesn't work out? I'd say Battle should keep in at 3 years given the risks involved in hiring an NBA coach into college.

You can't offer just a 3 year contract.

No one comes with a 3 year contract. Duh. Did you think before you wrote. Most are for around 5 years. This guarantees that if you sign a kid today your contract will not run out before he is a 5th year senior. That is why most contacts get a 1 year extension

I would think at least 4 years.
There are some very good college coaches who used to coach in the NBA.

if Bammer ends up with Avery Johnson or Prohm, Bammer will be exposed as the shite basketball program it is. The delusional tards on this board claimed you could get a big name simply by offering a bunch of money, but you are now apparently stuck picking between a guy who had mixed results in the NBA and has never been a college coach and a guy most people had never heard of before this coaching search

Well they are ending up with one of them

Most peeps in the bama circle knew of prohm. I assume most did not know who Greg Marshall was while he was a Winford. Did you know that is where he was when WSU hired him?

Avery >>>> Bruce.
But if you're scared just say you're scared.

Prohm is a much better hire than Johnson.

in the long run I agree since he would be at his destination job.

In your own little corner in your own little world...
Bottom line is that Avery Johnson would be a splash hire and would receive a lot of media attention and praise. I'll take an NBA Finals coach any day. Huge upgrade over Grant, at the very least. He'll immediately legitimize the basketball program as soon as he takes the podium to be introduced.
"Hey, I'm Avery Johnson. I had my number retired by the San Antonio Spurs and took the team I coached to the NBA Finals."
"Hey, I'm Bruce Pearl. I basically got blacklisted for lying to the NCAA. But I take my shirt off at sporting events and I coached in a couple of Sweet 16 games."
Take your pick, mom and dad.
