Mizzou also has a home and home with Memphis starting in 2015/2016 makes it SEC related, and people have clamored to expand and add North Carolina to SEC

Having only read the thread title and OP, lemme guess. Media outlet investigates college athletics program(s), finds academic (and other?) wrongdoings. Media outlet touts this as a "groundbreaking story" and/or "earthshattering news." Public greets news with a collective yawn. Nothing comes of it.

Am I in the ballpark?

Anyone remember SI's groundbreaking series on Oklahoma State a few months ago?

Yeah, me neither.

Yep this UNC story has been out there and gone over a lot the last couple of years and no one seems to care.

I like Bruce Feldman, but I'm so tired of the media constantly attempting to whack the pinata that never falls.

They tried umpteen times over the last few years to dig up pay-for-play scandals and players taking inappropriate benefits. Hardly any of it took, and the public now greets it with a collective yawn (with notable exceptions being guys like Cam and JFF who are stars).

Then it became recruiting scandals, drugs, and inappropriate stuff like that. Public yawned again. In fact, Deadspin straight up pwned SI's OSU debacle a few months ago ( Why SI's Oklahoma State Series Sucked).

Now it's a collective effort to shed light on the number of these guys who are undereducated or who are midwifed through school in order to remain eligible. Again, the public seems to be yawning.

I'd give a shite about any of this if they were trying to make a positive difference, but they're essentially just trying to serve as mall cops for the NCAA, carrying their water and thumping its bible while hypocritically railing against the facade of college amateurism.

I do find it interesting that schools in conferences that are notorious for criticizing the SEC's academics have been in the news for academic scandal while the SEC has been mostly untouched. Let a prominent SEC school and I guarantee we'd hear I told you so and never hear the end of it from these other conferences. Heck, the Big 12 lost two of their top 3 or 4 schools academically to the SEC and they STILL try to argue the SEC is inferior to them academically.

The NCAA has a wet noodle for a dick. They would have trouble making a virgin bleed much less a D1 athletic program. The media outlets keep digging up dirt and the NCAA keeps doing nothing about it because their own bylaws dont allow them to use other peoples research. When they go to investigate themselves nobody will talk to them because... [go back to top of paragraph]
