..........to those that still resist the idea that Grantham's calculus schemes were too cumbersome and complicated................ LINK...............
quote:
“It’s a lot more easy,” senior inside linebacker Ramik Wilson said.
quote:
“It gives everybody a chance to be a player,” sophomore safety Quincy Mauger said. “Do what we came here for as a D-1 athlete. Make plays. We don’t have to think a lot about ‘Where do we need to be?’ and ‘What is this guy doing?’ ”
quote:
“I think that was a problem last year, because we had a lot of younger guys playing who couldn’t pick up on the system as quick as others,” senior nose tackle Mike Thornton said. “So this is gonna help to our advantage a lot.”
quote:
“It’s not a lot of trying to think on the fly, or read keys a little bit quicker than you have to,” Thornton said. “It’s basically he calls a play, we get to it, we make an adjustment, and we just go. We go balls (out).”
quote:
“Trying to direct and play other things and tell people what to play?” Swann said. “It’s was kind of hard because it’s so much going on (out there) on the field. “Me being the lone guy trying to teach it to people, I think it was kind of hard for me, and for them,” Swann said.”

I like Thornton's comments the best.

Thanks for sharing. Confirms what many of us already knew/suspected.

True freshmen have trouble with sophisticated nfl defense.... Who'd a thunk it.

As the coach/coordinator, he was responsible for making sure his players understood what they are supposed to do and were able to execute accordingly. If they couldn't get it because it was too complicated, it was his job to change it to make it less complicated so that the players could grasp and execute it. He failed.

Awaiting deeprig's rebuttal.

Yep. Coaches are teachers too. He could not teach the younger guys anything which makes him a terrible coach. It was sink or swim with his playbook

If we're not running around in circles, flailing our frickin' arms & screaming at each other to "move here", "move there" when the ball is snapped, I'll consider it major improvement on the defensive side of the ball..

We had an historically bad defense last year. Think about that. Granthams D last year was worse than any year Willie coached the D and Willie was already far and away the worst D coordinator UGA had ever had...I may be calling the devil by naming him but, I don't think its POSSIBLE for Pruitt to do any worse.

Yep, and I would guess it could be an issue with any NFL coach transitioning to college coaching. If you aren't prepared to teach kids out of HS, then you should probably stay in the NFL.
