Coach Mason met with Rashad at his school today, offered him a scholarship, set up a OV for this weekend, AND got the commitment.

Canty is a 6'4" 205 lb receiver who, from what I've read and seen highlight wise, seems to be a decent athlete with a big body who has a lot of upside if he can take coaching well. WR really isn't a position of need exactly, but with so much inexperience set to get playing time, it is always nice to have lots of competition. Good move to get a quick commitment.

In other news, 3* OT Bailey Granier who has decommitted was quoted as saying, "He got me excited about Vanderbilt again and I am coming in this weekend for an official visit." Another 3* 6'4" 205 lb WR, Kameron Uter, is down to Wake Forest or Vanderbilt.

These 3 players' decisions, along with others coming in for OVs on Jan 24 will have major impacts on how well Coach Mason can salvage the recruiting class. Hopes are certainly up though.

6'4 WRs? That is how Mizzou made things happen this year. Good luck. Nice to see Vandy do well

I want us to go after more tall receivers like this. Congrats on the pick-up

Tall guys are nice. Especially with how much receivers can get away with as far as pushing off goes, big bodied guys can create easy separation. Being able to win jump balls is also a huge advantage and creates a safety valve of sorts for QBs. I just hope CDM isn't just bringing in filler to make the class look nicer.

If he can a little good weight to his frame and keep his athleticism, he could be a force. I like what I saw from some of his highlights.

a 3 star means at 6'4" he is likely missing something else in his game, mainly top end speed.

It's tough as hell to get players to come play with only 15 days to work with in an unfamiliar territory.

Kudos

Jordan Matthews was missing top-end speed too.

Jordan Matthews? Who? Is that a favorable comparison?

But for reals, I'll take precise routes, good ball skills, and sticky hands over speed.

Absolutely. As long as you have some fast guys on the field too. Sure-handed possesion receivers are Vandy's bread and butter though.

Congrats, it's been a rough go for y'all recently, but I think Mason was a solid hire and will do well for y'all
