Why is Florida afraid to schedule a neutral site OOC matchup?

This question is begging to be answered. They've been a top team over the last several years yet they never travel outside the state to play an OOC game. The last time Florida left the sunshine state for an OOC game? A 38-21 Loss at Syracuse on September 21, 1991. With the 2013 schedule set, Florida will make it 22 consecutive years without having left the state for an OOC game.

Over the last several years the following teams have played or will play OOC games away from home:

LSU: '09 @ Washington/ '10 vs UNC(Georgia Dome)/'11 vs Oregon (Cowboys Stadium)/'13 vs TCU (Cowboys Stadium)

Bama: '08 vs. Clemson (Georgia Dome)/'09 vs Virginia Tech (Georgia Dome) '11 @ Penn State/ '12 vs Michigan (Cowboys stadium)/ '13 vs Virginia Tech (Georgia Dome)/ '14 vs West Virginia (GA Dome)

Auburn: '12 vs Clemson '15 vs Virginia (Georgia Dome)/'11 @ Clemson/ '08 @ West Virginia

Tennessee: '10 @ Memphis, '08 @ UCLA, '12 vs NC State (Ga Dome), '13 @ Oregon, '14 @ Oklahoma

I've gotten tired of looking at schedules but Ole Miss is scheduled to play at Texas next season and in the Chick-fil-a chick of in 2014, Vandy played at Northwestern and Wake last year and goes to play UMass this year, Arky goes to Rutgers.

"But we play Florida State every year and sometimes we play Miami!" Hogwash! During the era of Florida championships (2006-present) of the 8 FSU/Miami teams, only 1 of those teams lost fewer than 4 games. Half of them lost 6 games.

So what gives Gators? Why so afraid to play step outside the statelines and play a quality OOC game? Most of the bigger name programs in the SEC have played in a marquee matchup kickoff game. Florida stays home and schedules puddle-ville state.

Why do you assume this has anything to do with fear?

22 years without an OOC outside of Florida? They scared. It's simple.

Hasn't it been like 60 years since they've played a regular season OOC game west of the mississippi?

It has nothing to do with fear, where in the schedule would you suggest UF shoehorn an OOC road game? Short answer "we're UF and we don't have to".

Florida is a self-sustaining economy, they must keep all the social security dollars instate to survive as state.

They play FSU every year, so there's your quality non-conference game every year. Got to pay bills with the other three slots as much as you can.

They play a neutral site game against UGA every year, so there's your every other year home game lost to a neutral site.

Other than signing up for one of these one-off games (which requires that you have an opening on short notice, and be attractive for such a matchup at that particular time) in a year where they are the designated visiting team against UGA, what are they supposed to do?

I give Florida a pass because they have FSU on the schedule every year. Actually it's not a pass so much as they're schedule is already fine.

No reason to schedule another "premier" OOC game. Would be stupid.

Let's not divert everyone's attention here.... We all need to be focused on Alabama's conference schedule, not Florida's OOC schedule.

Florida kick-off games:

2006: Southern Miss
2007: Western Kentucky
2008: Hawaii
2009: Charleston Southern
2010: Miami of Ohio
2011: Florida Atlantic
2012: Bowling Green
2013: Toledo

You know, I'm not sure.

ETA: I'm sure if Foley called up the operators of the CFA Kick off game or Cowboys Classic and said "We're interested in playing in your event", they would be happy to arrange for Florida to play in those games.

Btw you left out UGA in your OP so I'll include ours. In the last 5 years, since 2008:

08- @ASU
09- @OSU
10- @Colorado
11- Boise

We also played @clemson in 03 and again this year. We had home/homes scheduled for Louisville and Oregon but they got dropped, and also for Ohio State which I think also got dropped.

we went to tempe in 2008. Before that I honestly couldn't tell you as far as west of the mississippi. We've played @ clemson on and off through the years which is an OOstate, OOC game. I'm not saying so much "look at us we do it all the time", moreso just pointing out that there are a handful of big SEC schools doing this while UF is one of the main ones that won't.

ETA: Also, I don't care. If it was up to me we wouldn't play any of those type of games. It's lose/lose IMO.

UF usually field good teams. I don't know what they're so afraid to play quality OOC matchup.
