Tunsil, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound junior, did not play in the Rebels' first two games, and sources told ESPN.com that the sticking point is a loaner vehicle Tunsil received from Cannon Motors in Oxford, Mississippi, while his car was in the repair shop. Tunsil allegedly kept that loaner vehicle for an extended period of time before returning it to the dealership, and the NCAA has deemed it an extra benefit.

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork declined to comment Wednesday other than to emphasize the joint statement he and Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze released last week.

"The matters involving Laremy Tunsil aren't related to anybody on our football staff, Coach Freeze or any of the assistants," Bjork told ESPN.com. "We want to protect the young man and are doing everything we can to do that, but we also have to and need to and should protect our staff and our program."

Under NCAA rules, a player is required to miss 30 percent of his games for accepting impermissible benefits greater than $700. It could always be more, too, depending on mitigating factors. Former Georgia running back Todd Gurley was suspended for four games last season after accepting more than $3,000 in cash for signing memorabilia and other items over a span of two years. The NCAA said a longer suspension for Gurley was considered because the violations occurred over multiple years, but that Georgia's due diligence in its investigation and Gurley's full disclosure of his involvement were factors in not imposing a more severe suspension.

That article is 100% bullshite clickbait. It gives no update to the situation. It's an article that could have been written the exact same way 2 months ago

He kept the car longer? Damn, play the man, how is that comparable to getting cash for signing things.

It says he COULD miss more games and we are bracing for that. This is nothing we don't already know. We have known he could miss more games and our coaches have been preparing as if he won't play.

shite who is to determine the value of a car rental from a dealership? Seems like that is hard to narrow down.

10$ 20$ 25$

How much per day? Did he have the car 2 weeks 1 month or like 3 ?

30% would be 4 games though

Yeah, I feel like we could argue that the market value of a rental is ~$15/day especially if it was an extended rental. which means he's under $700 unless he kept it for more than 46 days. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking

Nissan determines the value, or, if the dealership actually rents cars, what they charge for a like unit...

Hard not to get mad at all parties involved. The NCAA is a joke and Johnny football missed one half cause they knew a&m money would have 50 lawyers suing their arse. Tunsil should have known better. Was a damn nice rental car for free worth this humiliation? Freeze should never have said bring it to anyone who might have proof we cheated. Everyone cheats, just keep quiet about it. And Michael joe cannon. Please nobody buy anything from that dealership and someone smack that smug tool bag in the face.
Bottom line tho, he screwed up and now the rest of the team is paying the price for it.

If Cannon kept proper records & cooperated, this should have been figured out in an hour, or so.

I whole heartily agree with this. If you don't offer it to the general public you can't do it for an athlete.

Are they the ones who were doing the repairs? It's pretty common for dealerships to give loners. I've personally taken advantage of that benefit.

The dealer I use offers loaners during oil changes.
