All this positive press is making me uncomfortable. Good things do not happen to us, and in the rare occasion they do (see some of Freeze’s success, or even Kermit) they certainly don’t look good from the outset. I remember we basically melted after we hired Freeze. Oh and of course the success we had under Freeze (and Nutt for that matter) we paid for in spades of misery and depression.

Prove me wrong

The reason we haven't sustained success is because of this type of attitude. I've been kicked in the face just as much as any other Ole miss fan and I still believe we can win.

I am renewing my season tickets ASAP, gonna go to the Baylor game. I’m excited again and will do my part. My superstition has no impact on outcomes, I am just cautious to be hopeful. OM sports has legitimately made me miserable over the years.

I think the superstition hurts with recruiting and the mind set of the team.

Go watch Arkansas’ Pittman introduction. That is pathetic.

I am not arguing that we look like geniuses that pulled off something great for once. That in fact is my point, how are we gonna frick this up?

For the first time in my lifetime, I saw an Ole Miss AD flex Ole Miss' muscle and go get the coach that made the most sense regardless of the pressures from within and from without.

That being said, 2020 is going to be a tough season. If you take the current rankings of teams this week for our first 7 games next season, five of those are ranked in the top 15:

Baylor (8)
SEMO
Auburn (13)
LSU (1)
Alabama (9)
Vanderbilt
Florida (7)

So, we are going to have to show a backbone next year and keep hope alive through murderer's row. However, we have talent on our team and Lane is a great recruiter. We got rid of a lot of dead weight on our coaching staff and Lane seems to have the support of the new regime of leaders at Ole Miss.

I was a Freeze guy. His wife taught at my high school in the 90s and Briarcrest was one of our rivals and his brother went to my church. I knew what kind of a coach he was so I was advocating for his hire and was damn excited when they hired him.

However, even then, it was a budget hire and he ended up being better than even I expected. This time, our AD swung our dick and made a big boy play. I truly believe that we just elevated our team to the top half of the West. Lane is a good coach and has made mistakes that he has learned from. He is not an old retread because he consistently self-evaluated, changed, and did not stare stubborn in the face like a Rich Rod did. He has changed the things that did not work in his mindset and he's grown up quite a bit.

I believe if Carter keeps up his current style, then we will climb to the top of that West mountain. This was not a normal Ole Miss thing to do.

I personally don’t see Kiffin going anywhere for a while.. He spent many years with SC during their glory years, he had his stint in the NFL, he got his first P5 HC gig at UT, he then got his dream job as SC’s head coach, spent time at Bama as OC, then chilled in Boca winning two conf championships at FAU..

I think this is his spot for a while.. he’s been through the meat grinder and Ole Miss presents an opportunity for him to establish himself and the program as a legitimate P5 contender. Now that he has this opportunity again after the UT to USC madness, I see him doing his absolute best to build a solid program with his “second chance.” The floor is no worse than the ceiling we had with Luke. The ceiling with Lane could be very high. He no doubt will land us some blue chip prospects, you can bank on that. Personally, if he flops, whatever. At least we stopped all the GOB bullshite and went out and hired a big name that is associated with former success. It’s easy to rag on Lane, but he was OC at USC during their glory years, had a 10 win season during his tenure as HC there (and had to deal with post sanctions and a limited roster), Bama NC, 2x conf champ at FAU.

It’s a good hire. I expect us to snag a couple big name recruits before end of recruiting cycle.

Who is "we"? I was a fan of the Freeze hire.

As for Lane, it's high time we all pulled together and in the same direction.

Get on the Lane Train or feel the pain.

People who posted on this board back then

Well mostly making sure Freezus' women weren't lonely while he was gone. That and lurking about here and there.

I am on the lane train.

I guess the premise of this thread is I am baffled we made such an astounding hire on paper, never seen us sack up like this in my lifetime. At the same time I am so fricking traumatized from the last few years that I would be nervous if we hired Saban.

Ole Miss humor = Self Deprecation, Satire & Sarcasm

It's easy to confuse with serious trust issues and lack of confidence that anything will ever go right ... I sure newer ranters will understand in time.

There is one really positive point I’d like to make

In Lane’s presser he mentioned at least twice about how erratic our program has been for quite some time. Boom or bust so to speak. We either win 8-10 games or we win 2-4, rarely anything in between. Big highs and devastating meltdowns.

I was extremely pleased to see he had done the research and addressed that head on as something he wants to prevent. I had become so used to it that I forgot that type of rollercoaster torture is not normal and we shouldn’t have to put up with that.

Have you ever had a long dry spell, then out of nowhere you have one of those nights at a bar in Oxford where you could say no wrong and do no wrong and then the next morning you wake up next to the hottest babe in the bar laying in your bed?

Accept it, man.
