This is Chambliss' 5th year. He's out of time.

I'm not one to really worry about QB under Lane. That said, I really hope Simmons is back. We are talking to some QBs just in case and I'd much rather have Simmons than any of them.

Good news is that Simmons appears to be in good spirits about things. He'll likely be 100% by OU and able to play against Wazzu so we'll see what happens.

With Pavia getting extra time, he should be able to piggy back off of that ruling and get another year, no?

It's one thing to be benched and lose your job.

It's another to be injured and lose your job.

I read an article at lunch (sorry can't find it now) about unexpected qb prospects climbing draft boards. It had TC as a third round pick. That would be perfect. He goes to a pro team and Simmons is our starter next year.

Pavia's taking advantage of a rule that JUCO no longer counts as a year on the clock. Chambliss didn't play JUCO.

The speculation around him is that D2 didn't technically offer redshirts until 2023 but their eligibility clock still applies at the FBS level. Chambliss was a true freshman and on the team in 2021. If anything, he is currently playing his "waiver" year but I'm pretty sure the NCAA just acknowledged his freshman year as a RS.

Could he apply for a waiver and say that D2 shouldn't count? Sure. He would not be the first but so far the NCAA hasn't approved any of those waiver attempts.

This. Trinidad is the team leader now. He just led us to a victory over the No. 3 team in the country. We ride with him. Simmons has to understand that.

Why is Willis at Locked On trying to fabricate drama about Simmons, fretting about some supposed dilemma facing Simmons when the portal opens? WTF? At the end of this year Trinidad will be graduated and Simmons will be #1 on our QB depth chart. Exactly NO ONE can be upset if we continue to start the guy who just won AP national player of the week. Why the frick is Willis trying to gin up controversy over that?

I'm just gonna come out and say it.

I don't feel sorry for Simmons. He clears $600,000/year as a 19-year old, more than probably 98% of Mississippians.

Me either. Not at all. If anything it should be the fire under his arse to push him even harder . He was basically guaranteed the starting job with no competition, the game has changed and he must be better to play

I think he is going to be okay and end up being our guy next year. He seems to have his head screwed on right.

Hell, with the way we play, he may end up being our guy this year.

It would be dreamy if Simmons waits in the wings behind Chambliss and takes it like a champ like Jalen Hurts type attitude. I’d also still love to see some plays designed around both QBs on the field, even as a decoy. Prob not worth the risk of injury however. But like a one off WR screen pass or reverse to pass type scenario.
